As a newly established math tutor, tutoring is scary because now I have a fear of whether I know the material as well as I think I do or not.

Tutoring at university for Maths has been the most gratifying experience of my life.
Having struggled so much in those classes I totally understood where they were coming from.
I knew that some things for some reason just take a lot longer to click than others,
I also garden a lot, so I see it as planting that seed of knowledge,
seeing them nail the problem, and finally connect the dots,
before you know it they start thriving,
that energy depression of struggling, to pure bliss and flourishment.
Man nothing gives me that much excitement.

I agree with you. Sometimes we tend to forget some of the knowledge we learn. For that, we should not feel down but refer to the resources and recall our skills.

I've been tutoring for 25 years in math and I'm going to start my channel then I came across this. Amazing. Math is everything.

As someone who has been tutoring awhile too, I think this was a pretty good guide to someone new! I think the only thing I would say is that if you're able to branch into new topics, try it! I've learned new things and it helped me professionally as well to pick up new skills!

I think one thing you're missing is the materials/lesson plan that tutors have to prepare for! Sometimes, preparation can take longer than the tutoring session itself, and so I think it's important for many aspiring tutors out there to know that your preparation might have to be long, and it is vitally critical to successful tutoring

I'm a math tutor and I was also surprised at how many bright, gifted students get tutors. For some people the question is am I doing so poorly that I need a tutor? For other people the question is would I benefit from learning math one-on-one?

Thank you very much for the video. I just got a tutoring position at a college. Thank you for pointing out that there’s little training - I will get prepared and be responsible.

Been tutoring for eleven years, and you bring up some amazing points. In regards to realizing how much you forgot…. I always tell new tutors they will be considered professional tutors, or wizards in the eyes of the students, after 1 full year of tutoring. Once you’ve helped students weekly over a full year of classes, you’ll know it all again

I used to do elementary math tutoring and it's amazing what basic stuff you forget and how tough some problems can be and feeling like a deer in headlights when you stare at something and it is not coming to you lol

Yes pretty much all of what you said is true.I. have a suggestion for you though. You said it is hard for you to know how to help students since you dont know what they are struggling with.I usually design a test which has all questions from grade 6 through 12 to judge and know the flaws a student might have. That might help you find the loopholes in the students knowledge.

I was a math tutor at university, was nervous but i needed job experience money and kinda wanted my math skills to be fresh and on point for my future senior classes and such. It was fun while it lasted...and i haven't done math for like 8yrs. I have forgotten alot haha 😅

But I think gotta get back to it. For money and to help people.
