I think you need to go to Japan and have them to rate properly. Unless authentic Japanese ppl are making them here in the U.S.!
Most desserts and cakes are not overly sweet like they are in the U.S. everything here is overloaded w sugar. They typically use sweet beans or natural foods to make things sweet and they are sweet in a much diff way. Something to get used to.
Def take a trip to Japan! My husband is from Osaka and we go there once a year!

I went to Japan 2018 they had roasted banana on mine and it was delicious. I think they used different batter.

Thanks for sharing Nick! Always nice to see when you try something new. I had an American friend over once (1996 and in 2007) and we went out to eat Dutch pancakes, he loved them. We make it with just milk, flower and eggs. But they are very flat compare to your American fluffy pancakes. We bake them with banana slices or apple slices or bacon on top or just plane and top them with syrup or powdered sugar. I just baked them for my mother this evening (I am watching my calories, so didn't eat them tonight).

It's always nice when you can check of something from a bucketlist, food or otherwise. These pancakes have been on mine too but haven't gotten around to them yet. Just git back from a tril to NY but with the portion sizes in the US it has been hard to get through the list. Such luxury problems i know. Have you ever tried Dutch pancakes ? It almost like a crepe, but larger and we have sweet and savoury versions. My all time favorite is the cheese and bacon pancake with the Dutch sugar syrup. Both are baked into the pancake and i'm sure you will like the poffertjes as well. Those are bite size fluffy pancakes served traditionally with butter and powdered sugar. And you cannot skip on the freshly made huge stroopwafel on the market. Come for a visit to my side of the pond and try food around the Netherlands and the rest of Europe. Possibly a romantic trip with Laura with a visit to Paris ❤
