The shadow chancellor tells Sky News' Sophy Ridge on Sunday that the Labour party will whip its MPs to back a second referendum. McDonnell said it would be common practice to see MPs whipped to support party policy, but said he understood the difficulties such a decision could pose for MPs in leave-voting constituencies

There is nothing wrong in principle with a second referendum. It's three years and opinions may have changed. It may cause social friction, but so what ... that's democracy!.

Tom Watson certainly needs to be whipped into line.

The Muppets have left the building, and hopefully Uncle Tom Watson will follow.

Just double checking. Are we talking proverbial whipping or are the Belts coming off in the Commons?

Good call John and Jeremy, Labour is realistic, grounded and want to spend tax payers money on public services and on our schools which at the moment has appallingly be withheld by the Theresa May and her Government.

The truth at last: No Deal is really bad. TM's deal is bad. The Labour Party do not actually have an alternative. So scrap the whole Brexit blunder

I can’t get my head around these MPs who want a second referendum
– they are either complete and utterly hypocritical or complete and utterly naïve.
Why? Because a second referendum would be seen by all those that voted leave as
a betrayal of democracy and create an internal war in the UK that would
facilitate a huge rise in the far right socially and then politically in future
elections due to the betrayal which would ultimately result in a future far
scarier and dark than simply respecting the will of the people and leaving the
EU; therefore creating something they will hate far more than simply doing the
decent and honourable thing and letting us leave as the people voted and
instructed. I just can’t believe how naïve to this reality some people calling
for a second referendum are. Most of the remain voters I know say they wouldn’t
vote to remain in a second referendum 1. Because they say they would rather be
good and decent people and respect the will of the vote we had and 2. Because
they live in the real world and realise how dark a place a second referendum
would take this country that would be far worse for our children’s futures than
leaving the EU. People say there were lies so we should have a re-vote, but
there have been lies in every political vote I have taken part in… the conservatives
promised us they wouldn’t increase VAT before they were in power, then they
increased it – did that mean we had a general election because they lied? No –
the first vote must be carried through and if people want a vote to come back into
the EU after we leave, that is better because the leave voters will not feel
like their vote never counted and rebel (in fact all leave voters I speak to
say they would have voted leave regardless of the national campaigns to leave
so lies or not – it does not appear it would have made a major difference). In
summary then; a vote to remain in a second public vote would be a vote to take our
country to a far right uprising far scarier than leaving the EU, plus it would
be an indecent, immoral vote against the will of the people. Thankfully most people
I know who voted remain realise this and are fully aware of the fact a second
referendum before the original will is acted on is a step towards a dictatorship
and are aware of what happens in countries when the will of the people is not
carried out. Remainer MP’s say leaving the EU is scary and dangerous, but those
naïve MP’s calling for a second referendum will take us to a far scarier and
dangerous future for our children, especially if the outcome of it was to
remain.
