How Brain Rot Destroys Student's Life

Have you ever felt like your brain is turning into mush from endless scrolling? Or maybe caught yourself in the middle of an Instagram marathon, wondering where the last two hours went?
We’re talking about something that’s secretly messing with all of us: brain rot. Yep, the dreaded brain rot.
For those of you who don’t know, brain rot isn’t some scary disease from a horror movie. It's what happens when you spend way too much time on mindless activities, like scrolling through social media, binge-watching cat videos, or endlessly clicking on clickbait YouTube videos. You know that feeling when you’ve watched so many TikToks that you start dreaming in 15-second clips? That’s brain rot creeping in.
Imagine this: it’s a typical Tuesday afternoon, and you’re trying to study for an upcoming exam. You’ve got your textbooks spread out, a nice cup of coffee, and your laptop ready. You’re determined to make this study session count. Just as you’re about to dive into Chapter 3, your phone buzzes. It’s a message from your friend.
He’s sent you an Instagram reel, and it looks hilarious. You think, “I’ll just check it out for a quick laugh.”
You open Instagram and watch the reel. But then, you swipe up to see the next reel. And the next. And the next. Before you know it, you’re deep into the Instagram reel rabbit hole. You’ve watched a dog doing a dance, a cooking hack that you’ll probably never try, and a prank video that has you in stitches.
Time flies when you’re having fun, right? You glance at the clock and realize that an hour has gone by. One whole hour. Your textbooks are still lying there, untouched. The coffee you made is now cold, and you can’t remember what you were supposed to be studying in the first place. That’s brain rot in action.
You try to get back into your study groove, but it’s hard to focus. Did you know it takes about 20 minutes to regain full focus after a distraction? Yep, that means every time you pick up your phone, you’re setting yourself back even further.
This scenario doesn’t just affect your study session. It starts to spill over into the rest of your day. You decide to take a break from studying and go grab some lunch. While you’re eating, you absentmindedly scroll through your phone again. This time, you’re on YouTube.
By the time you’ve finished your lunch, another hour has passed. You were supposed to go for a jog to clear your mind and get some exercise, but now you’re feeling sluggish and unmotivated. You decide to skip the jog and just chill on the couch for a bit. You turn on Netflix and start watching a new series. Three episodes later, you realize the entire afternoon has slipped away.
The next morning, you wake up feeling groggy. You didn’t get enough sleep because you stayed up late trying to make up for lost time. You drag yourself out of bed, already dreading the day ahead.
And the cycle continues.

The worst thing about this problem, is about realizing that you're suffering from it.

This is a strange thing honestly. Somedays, it's easy to let go, somedays, you just get dragged into a loophole of scrolling for 3 hours, thinking you just spent barely 5 minutes. There's a feeling of guilt, regret of starting to scroll, and yet, it's not easy to stop even then.
The tips are really cool though! Especially socializing in the outside world, it feels great, don't be afraid to start a conversation!

The fact that some people think porn addiction can cause a depression which is that true, but the other truth is that the endless scrolling also cause the depression for some weird reason. But yeah, fun fact, I'm 15 and I'm glad I'm not living like a child who's eating while using phone or doing something like that. I really hope this helps me out pretty well but I'm glad I've never had any porn addiction since it's against our religion, but what can I say, this is a best video to save you being suffered from the social media.

This isn’t brain rot for me at this point anymore, I just wanna be done with existence once and for all but I can’t cause I don’t really have the chance. But once I do get a chance I’ll definitely be out. It’s pretty difficult to be productive in a world u no longer want to live in. But I just gotta pass my time somehow you know, just existing through the day. So I just pick up social media for a few hours or spend the entire day staring at the ceiling. It’s so difficult to pass each day; it’s too long. I wish this could stop, I feel guilty about this brain rot but I can’t do anything to stop it. Don’t tell me to ‘exercise’ or ‘eat healthy’ or just ‘get over it’ im so freaking tired of listening to it all, makes me want to quite being here even more. I feel like this is another big problem of this generation.
Thanks for listening to my rant that no one irl will.

It takes only 7 days to fix brainrot. LEAVE your phone for 7 days and dont even think of it. PAY attention to your surroundings and learn from them.

Some advice that I think will help.

1. Put your phone on do not disturb.
- I’ve had my phone on DND for 5 years and it’s great. I think it’s good because you only look at notifications when you make the conscious decision to pick your phone up. If you have notifications on, your phone is constantly vibrating. It’s a stimulus.

2. Ask yourself if you actually want to watch what you’re watching. Did you really intend on watching this or are you stuck in a loop? Keep asking yourself and eventually you’ll be able to catch it and get yourself back to where you were going

3. Rearrange your priorities. Unfollow/unsubscribe from filler things that have no place in your life. Pretty much what this guy says in the end of the video.
