The meme aside, as a (east) german myself, I can say American/Allied hegemony was way better.
Even though I was born a few years after the reunification, we learn about it in history and from our parents. While the soviets took everything from east germany as reparations and left us with barely anything to rebuild, west germany got all kinds support from the west to rebuild their economy in order to pay back their reparations. The soviets literally deconstructed entire factories and railroads to rebuild them in their territory.

Are you kidding? Life in West Germany was *immeasurably* better than in the East. Quality of infrastructure, standard of living, freedom of travel. Just freedom in general.

Don’t forget what led to the Berlin airlift. The first world treated west Germany much better than the Soviets treated all of Germany.

As a german, American was way better, the Allied forces tried to rebuild germany whereas the russians tore down every bit of infrastructure they could emptied every single factory and shipped all the material back to Russia. Then they flooded our economy with freshly printed money, just to make sure we could never recover.

Was there selfish motivations? Sure, America tried to prove that capitalism was better, whereas the Russians tried to prove that Communism was better, but the end result matters, the american side had food and fuel to keep themselves warm and fed. whereas the Russian side was starving and freezing, and the Russians intended to make it to where the one spec in Russia that belonged to the allied forces would suffer as they were, to prove that capitalism sucked, which then inspired the Berlin Air Bridge, which, yes, was done purely to spite the Russians, but American spite fed and warmed germans, whereas Russian spite starved them.

Saying that Russia and America are the same is obviously ridiculous and wrong. Russia literally had to build a wall to prevent people from leaving their side of Berlin. 😂

In actual numbers, west Germans had a significantly higher standard of living, a higher gdp per capital, and disposable income (this is why East Germans often migrated over to west and why the Berlin wall was made)
