Welcome to Knowledge By Nature!

In today’s video, we are doing a lesson in our new Primary Math 2022 curriculum for 2nd grade. This lesson is part of chapter one and so far comparable to the other lessons in this chapter.

Here are the links to the manipulatives that we used for base 10 blocks & the fun dino tracks game we played:

Thank you for this! I think what is drawing me to primary is all the support that's there if needed for both teacher and student.

I want to thank you so much for all the videos you have made regarding singapore math, I have been binge watching them for a few days 🤭 lol. Your reviews and flip throughs are very thorough and have most definitely helped in my decision.

I have decided to switch my 5 year old to the us edition os primary mathematics and this change was because my son needed the challenge, math comes so naturally to him and he does most of his math mental already. Our previous math curricula was too easy for him. I know dimensions is even more challenging but I do not like the long lessons since I am homeschooling 3 kiddos and also since im new to singapore math, I wanted to keep things more original and not over do it.

For my 7 old im switching her to the new 2022 of primary mathematics because it seems like a fun curriculum, with different activities like some involve drawing and journaling. My daughter has been complaining about math for some time, and after 3 years I feel like its time we venture out of our math curriculum and try something new! Math doesn’t come so naturally to her so since the 2022 is the easiest of all the programs I decided to go that route!

This was an AMAZING video!! We’ve been using P2022 4A and I’ve been loving it so far!

We are doing 4A right now. Although so far the work seems very doable for my son, lessons are very long as I’m finding the HIG is very wordy. He is often waiting to do the next thing as I read through all of the text. I do however worry about skipping over things as we are new to Singapore math and don’t want to miss any important info! Hopefully we will find our groove soon. I only purchased the HIG and student book. Thanks for sharing a lesson with us!

Thank you for this video! We are switching from Dimensions to Primary 2022 starting with 2B and it was very helpful seeing a lesson in action. 😊

Gah, this has me so torn. I think I’m pretty settled on switching to Primary for 1B, but now I need to decide between the US Edition and the 2022. It looks like Mastery almost adds the same level of “busy work” as the workbook in Dimensions (since the textbook in Dimensions is already so many pages). It almost seems like 2022 is doing the same thing with the number of pages to get through between the textbook and the workbook. BUT it does look like 2022 does a way better job of guiding both teacher and student through the work than Dimensions does, especially clearly delineating the goals along the way (maybe even better than the original Primary because the 2022 HIG has better visual organization), and that looks very attractive to me. My biggest hangup right now is figuring out what gaps there might be between Dimensions 1A and 2022 1B. 🤦🏻‍♀️😆

Thank you again for putting out such great content. You’ve been a life-saver in helping me puzzle this thing out. 🥰

Edited to add: Also, I’m curious how testing works with 2022. I notice you didn’t pick up the separate Assessments book, which I assumed was comparable to Dimensions’ Test booklet. Are there assessments included in the base program, or are you not doing tests? I’m just trying to figure out if that Assessment booklet is an additional expense you don’t really need.

Would you say the home guide and student book is sufficient for the whole year for a student who does pretty well in math? I'm debating on getting the additional workbook or the teacher assessment book? Would those be beneficial?

How long does a lesson "typically" take you? Does your daughter do additional independent work on her own (i.e. from the additional workbooks available)?

My daughter is going into 3rd grade next year. We’ve been using Masterbooks & I liked up till level 3. I don’t like the way it teaches multiplication with almost no pictorial model practice. I’m pretty sure I want to switch to a Singapore math. Since the programs are different would she benefit from starting at 2A to fill in possible gaps or possibly start her at 2B She knows how to do a lot in 2A but the methods are different than what she’s been taught. I don’t want her to get frustrated having to relearn something a new way but I know it’s important to get the hang of the method.

Thank you for this video- I've been waiting to see what you thought of the new Primary 2022. Do you prefer it over the "old" Primary? Based on the fact that you havent been using the Mastery book, would you recommend sticking with the home instructors guide and the student guide?

Would you say Dimensions has more games and activities or does Primary 2022 have more or is it equal? We are big into learning through games so I’m trying to decide which program has more game and activity ideas included. When I look at the samples of Dimensions online it seems like that one has more activities, games, songs and I think it even has story recommendations if I remember correctly… what are your thoughts?

We are using Primary (us edition) 2A and are about to start 2B. It has been going just fine but I like the look of the 2022 version but I'm not sure the color and less books are reason to switch lol

I have another child using Horizons and am considering moving her to Primary as well and seems she may do better with the 2022 version. Do I switch both kiddos or do 2 separate programs? 🙃

Which program would you say is more open and go friendly?

Would you recommend dimensions or primary for a kindergartener and 1st grader? I am a new homeschooler, and need help with curriculum. Thanks!

Do you have to be good at math to use this curriculum for your child? Is it difficult to follow the lesson plans?
