The one thing sighted people should know about blind and low vision people is we're awsome and never judge a book by its cover. Great job Corey on this question and great answer Matt.

Hey Corey and Matt, fantastic video and such a great question! I haven't really received stereotypical treatment from the sighted community and a big reason I feel that is is because unless I whip out my magnifying glass, I don't, "look" like I have a vision problem. However I've been around so many incredibly awesome individuals with a lot less vision than me. There are so many things I wish sighted people would understand about VIPs but two stick out in my mind.

1. I wish that all sighted people understood that people with a sight impairment ARE NOT CONTAGIOUS! You will not catch my blindness being around me or talking to me!

2. I wish that all sighted people understood that most individuals with a sight impairment can hear just fine. Our blindness has nothing to do with how well we can hear you. In fact since we can't see so good, we tend to rely on our hearing more so and because of that, our hearing tends to be more sensitive.

Great video 👍. People should know that our visual limitations do not define us. We are capable of accomplishing many great and good things.

I wish that people with normal vision could comprehend that eyesight is not one of the life sustaining necessities like oxygen, sleep or nourishment. People can liveAnd function quite well without vision. Yes, it takes perseverance, patience and adaptation but people who have severe loss of sight can, and do, lead productive and even happy lives.

Hi Cory and Matt! great video and I love the idea of putting matt on the hot seat. I couldn't agree more with his answer. The biggest thing that I encounter is the assumptions people make about what I can and can't do. And honestly feeling like I have to prove myself can get very frustrating and to be honest sometimes it makes me angry. I have low vision that doesn't mean I forgot how to do everything that I did before. so many times when I'm talking to people they start rattling off everything they think I can't do and I have to take a deep breath and attempt to explain and oftentimes move forward to proving that I can. I do so much in a given day that I don't think people realize how much I do manage to accomplish. I will admit some things take me longer to do and I have to do them differently now but the same result occurs I can get things done. Thanks again so much for your videos.

More respect, accepting and acessible. Life can be hard and people dont understand it. My dad was blind over 20 years, he was very independent. He had a positive attitude. He lost his due to glaucoma. My name is Sandra, i was born with glaucoma in both eyes. I have no vision in my right, just light shadow and my left is good eye. I get frustrated with people, think cant do anything. My dad advise me, dont give, keep fighting and stay focus. Just died three months due to cancer. Loves your videos warm regards, Sandra

hey Matt you stole my answer! LOL just kidding. Seriously though that’s exactly what I was going to say. It is tough. It’s extremely tough. I’ve been blind since 1985 and I still struggle emotionally with it at times. Not all of the time but there are times that I do. Sometimes I feel like I’ve been robbed of something very precious. I would also one-sided people know that it could happen to anyone. It could happen as you grow older. Things just happen. Also as you said, We are just like they are. We are human beings just like they are. I would also say that they should never take their vision for granted.

I dont like it when ignorent people Hurt people who are better then them.
Matt is the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back to anyone Who needed it.
Plus he's Always helping people who need it.
And i dont like it when evil creeps hurt people with disabilitys that go out of there way to try and make a positive difference in peoples life and there only pay back is to know that they have helped someone Who really need it!
So keep up your Wounderful work Matt.
God bless you and yours and Dont let the evil people Change the Great work you do Every day!
I only wish that there where More people like you in this messed up world, because you really make a positive difference in a Evil world.
Thanks brother!

Hi Corey and Matt. The one thing i want sighted people to know that horseback riding as a blind person is possible with a sighted person leading your horse from in front with the rope.

I agree with a lot you said Matt. You think being held up the house for 2 to 3 days is bad live my life sometimes I'm in the house for two weeks no joke. This past winter was a real big disconnect for me. I ended up getting severely depressed. But people would not know that from watching my channel.

It was my first winter with a visual impairment. But I got through it and now I am getting out more whether it be trying to do yard work or just going for long walks.

What a lot of people don't know about me is I truly care a lot about what people think about me. I'm always trying to be kind happy some people take that is if you are acting or fake. I cannot stand pity yet I have to get it a lot because of my VIP. I cannot stand when people treat my blindness as if it's a death sentence. I have even had people have does if it's contagious not going to catch it by getting close to me. What people don't know and I don't tell it's like when they act this way even though I have severe vision loss I can still tell. I have many other senses that work just fine. And that blindness for me is a filter so I can still tell some kind of body language at times.

Hi Corey and Matt. My number one thing has become, when I am in a store with someone just acknowledge me and I can speak. My second thing is, yes!! I want to get out of the house come get me!! Great video as always keep up the good work.

One of my college friend asked this question yesterday when we did a study group. He just found out that I have low vision. I said when people greet me just call my name and then tell me yours so I can greet you back. It's always bden an issue for me because I love to greet people.

Around where I live people tend to believe it’s one your completely blind. So if you can do some things with your vision then you are fine and don’t need a cane. Or the fact I still use glasses for what little vision i have left can blow their minds as well.

I really want the world to know that I have spent the last 24 years learning how to perform the art of Magic, and I do it professionally. Really wish I can get more jobs out of it as well
