I've been watching you since 10K subs, and I gotta say that these type of question-answer videos are damn great and are definitely my favorite videos from you. They're informative and explained well enough for less-versed viewers, such as me, to understand. Please don't stop them. Thanks Jay :D

An overclocking board also lets you adjust more settings separately such as the north bridge which will help yield bigger clocks if done right. You can also take advantage of faster memory and have a greater range of timing options available.
These are only small things but a lot of small benefits add up, I like to hang onto old kit so it's worth investing in a decent board that will last for me.
All the cheap boards I had constantly overclocked all started to fail within a few months of fairly light use. Eventually you will have to keep reducing the clocks until you are back to stock speed. The more powerful the processor the faster the degradation will occur, you may have to underclock to keep it alive in the end. Doesn't matter which manufacturer or socket you choose the results were always the same for me.
Asus Sabertooth 990FX and ROG Hero have both lasted years constantly overclocked and I've run numerous benches on both at the absolute max speeds I can. I will go for another Sabertooth on the next build if the price is right, they come with a 5 year warranty and have military grade parts according to Asus.

An expensive B150 would be better than the cheapest Z170, the Z170 lets has different features such as crossfire & SLI a cheap one may not last being hammered constantly. In motherboards you do generally get what you pay for in terms of quality, if at a given price point you get lots of features then the quality will be less than a board with less features.

I do think the top of the range Republic of Gamers boards are over the top, you need to be using phase change, dry ice or LN2 to justify £300+. Around the £150 mark gets a good quality board with plenty of features and constant overclocking capability. For sub £100 boards your best to run stock speeds most of the time unless you have a really low power cpu. Anything £60 or less don't even think about it.

I think a "inbox time" segment will be really good it can let people know before the click the video that it might be a little "boring" to the people that already understand the content but love seeing your personality and really informative for the new guys

I got that motherboard for my build.
I knew I wanted to overclock and the number of power phases was certainly a plus.
But mostly I just wanted this one because it was just so freakin beautiful. And that, to me, was worth paying the high cost of this board compared to any other Z170 board.

The flat caps around the socket and on the board are different from the normal round solid caps that you find on the gaming boards, they make it much easier to insulate the motherboard from condensation :)

A lot of the special 'features' on 'gaming' motherboards are flashy crocs of shit... It's mostly all marketing..

I would definitely use that board for a purple white and silver build. Jay, you need to do this!

On the Haswell platform even the lowest grade motherboards were able to support the same frequency as the top tier ones. Even JJ from Asus admitted that in a live stream at Tek Syndicate like 2 and a half years ago when Z87 came out.

I am completely for an inbox series on your channel. There's never such a thing as too much knowledge, and you do a great job at making things easy to understand.

Hy,

I'm your subscriber for only few months and you really helped me when choosing my first pc gaming rig. As some other commentators stated, I too really enjoy videos like this. Keep them coming! :D

Topic suggestion, if you haven't covered it already, that I would be interested in: VRAM temperatures - monitoring, safe/dangerous temps, at stock/overclock
