I know this video is a bit old, but as someone who wants to learn about making homemade soap, this video is definitely important.

I love when people think they don’t use lye soaps ...

Very true. I'm surprised I didn't comment on this video when it was uploaded. Detergent free melt & pour soap bases are technically someone elses pre made lye soap. All you have to do is take a sharpie & underline the lye ingredients found on the supplier's label that sold it to them & tell them to "Google" the definition.

So to clarify, because I am interested in making cleansing products at home, with or without lye it'll get the job done? Like for bathing and such?

Yea, I've been trying to find a way to make soap without lye, but even if it's an oil, or an ash lye, or a clay, at the end, it's some kind of lye🤦‍♀️

I'm sure this video is old. I did not even pay attention. I have just now started researching soap and I have seen a few videos and have not attempted to make it however after watching your video, the way you worded it, everything makes sense. You just said it how it was. Why everyone else cannot do that, they always want to add some b.s. in there🤔

Thank you for helping me understand that there is no soaps without lye. I have been looking into making soaps and I have seen these videos about making soaps without lye and haven't quite had an understanding of how that is qualified as soap. With this video I know now that they are really just detergents.

Wow I'm so glad you made this video, great channel btw. I always wondered why people fought me tooth and nail telling me that they dont use lye to make soap when you have to from my understanding.

I had a lady come to my farmers market booth a couple years ago and ask "do you have a lye free soap?"... 🙄

What about making “soap” bars with natural saponins like shikakai? I don’t believe lye is bad, but the saponification process makes it really alkaline and dries my skin out too much. I would want to use it on my hair as well, which requires a more acidic formula to prevent damage

Hello. Thanks for this. I saw a few videos where people claimed to be making Lye-free soap, but I noticed they were using pre-purchased base. Obviously they were unaware that the base is a Lye based mixture. Obviously there isn't any Lye left over if mixed properly, but my question is HOW? I mean is it simply neutralized? Are the Lye molecules changed in the process? Does the Lye evaporate? Thanks.

So what about a shampoo plant and some coconut oil….?

Thanks for clarifying. I just started researching soap making and it seemed to me that the base was just simply cutting out the dangerous process of making the soap, but after researching soap bases, I found that they still contained lye. Your video validated that.
