Europeans have recently voted in the 2024 European Parliament election. However, in its current form, I argue that the institution is actually useless. Unless it is significantly reformed, it is doing a disservice to the European Union and democracy. Let's explore why.

Latin Country States should be more aware of our importance in UE27, because we can unite just us under a Paris-Rome Deal. We're the nucleum, that doesn't need your particles....😏🇫🇷🇮🇹🇪🇦🇵🇹🇪🇺💪

These number are meaningful without the number of people who are thinking EU is useless.

In my opinion we should vote for the commision via the parliament but not for local parties but for the EU groups.

You are cherry picking data. Czechia is not all of the EU. So your conclusion based on that data is rubblish. Garbage-in Garbage-out. The corruption involved 1 MEP out of 720 and she was removed from her position immediately.

Former East European Countries under Russian control did benefit, at the expense of the richer West European countries, including the UK, but at the expense of sovereignty. That's why the UK voted out and why I expect the EU to collapse in the none to distant future.

I have lived in the Czech Republic for the past 16 years. I know one thing the Czech Republic would not be what it is today without the EU. This applies to most of the Ex USSR east European states.

I'm an E.U. citizen and I'm tired of their geopolitical games, while people are being erased from this shitty world. I have a voting card as a Frenchman and....:@

The right of initiative really isn't important at all. It would be nice to have, yes, but I always ask people who bring it up, what additional laws they think we'd have, if the EU parliament could propose laws. Which laws did the parliament want, but the commission declined to put up to a vote? I never get an answer. I also doubt that even 10% of EU citizens know that MEPs can't propose legislation. This really isn't the reason why people don't vote in EU elections.

Abolishing the parliament is a terrible idea. It would give all the power in the EU to member state governments. It is important however, that the work of the commission is checked in Brussels, not just in the far away capitals of the member states.

Most people who have worked in both a national and the EU parliament agree that the EP does a lot more work than national parliaments. The stuff they work on is just less interesting to most people. Sure, voters are happy about the end of roaming charges and are angry that bottle caps are now fixed to the bottles, but they mostly worry about immigration, housing, security, cost of living, pensions, taxes, culture war stuff, ... none of which are responsibilities of the EP. If you want people to care more about EU elections, the EP would need to have more of a say in some of the policy areas people actually care about.

The European Union should become a federation, since in today’s world the European countries one their own are not able to compete
