The redhead looks like she learned how to drive stick on her brother's football team.

The first car with manual transmission I've driven was an old Corolla from one of my local driving school. Then I test drove a Nissan 370Z. I couldn't handle the heavy clutch at all. Then I went on to a Toyota 86 and immediately fell in love with the car. A 2016 Miata after the 86.

I’m 18 now, my dad taught me to drive stick a few months after I got my license in his ‘85 Porsche 944 and I was terrible but it’s just an incredibly fun car to drive and I love it, and it’s what got me into cars

why do the Americans make such a big deal about changing gear manually, and why do the ones that can "stick shift" boast like its some amazing skill that needs to be learnt right now or your not a real driver ?

For me learning stick was really easy because I knew the mechanics behind so I was just imagining how it works so it helped me a lot. Also my miata has like no horsepower.

I've driven stick twice. Both in different cars. First time was a 1995 Mazda 626 5 speed, didn't stall, came very naturally to me. Second was a brand new Focus ST. That didn't go so well. I'd say definitely go for an older car, something that doesn't have very touchy accelerator/ brake pedals, where you can really get a better feel.

I just got in my first manual car and drove away. It was a 96 Subaru outback and it was easy to learn in.

I bought a stick GTI this summer but only had 2 days to learn stick before I picked it up. I first drove my friends decommissioned 1992 Saab 900, then after 30 minutes of driving around the neighborhood, went to his daily driven Saab 9-3 SE on the road. Then a day later drove my friends e36 M3 with a super heavy clutch and notchy short shifter. I think knowing how to drive before learning stick and also having a good idea of how everything works really helps to get up and going.

Civic is the correct answer. Also NA or NB Miata.

i am very very afraid of people who say that manual is "hard". If coordinating a foot and a hand is a challenge for them, how will they handle traffic which by comparison is chaotic? Anyway, what car you use to learn manual is irrelevant. *Who* teaches you is much, much more important. I learned in a 1st gen fiat panda. 800cc of fury. Took me about two minutes. Why? Because I'm smart and awesome? No. It was because the person who showed me how it's done, knew what they were doing! So far I haven't met a person that doesn't learn stick in 5 minutes when I use the same method. It's not rocket science, ffs.

I learned to drive stick on the first car I ever bought, a 1983 ford f100 and I wouldn't have it any other way. The clutch is so forgiving that you can let it out almost all the way before stalling it, and changing gears requires you to move the gear knob 2 feet.

I learned on a 65 Mustang with a 6 cylinder. I got really good at downshifting into second without the clutch.

I learned to drive a stick on a motorcycle. At 13 years of age. On a Suzuki trail bike, about 125cc, 2 stroke. Next stick I drove was a school bus. I highly recommend small displacement motorcycles to learn on. Slightly under powered, but with very direct linkeage. Mine even had a clutch cable. Plus, you spend more energy learning to ride the bike, so the shifting comes naturally.

Lol, first line in the video "don't learn to drive stick in a corvette"... I did just that. Big deal. It doesn't matter what you learn on, as long as you start in a parking lot.
