TEDxFullerton - Peter Clothier - Heeding The Call

The premise of this talk is that each one of us has a "calling"--a purpose in life that we are given to do. The happiest amongst us are those who are attuned to their calling and who have found the way to put it into practice. In addition to the "call", we are offered multiple signs along the way, to let us know when we are headed in the right direction--and when we need to change course. The skill most needed by creative people of all kinds is ability to pay attention, to read those signs, and follow where they lead us.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

Sounds like Peter's chains were his desire to be a writer!

I think the idea that there is one and only one calling or goal that will make you happy is misguided. The world is full of fulfilling oppertunities. Your identity, your "calling" is shaped in the process of discovery provided you're not too stubborn to allow it to be changed.
