I just spent 3 months backpacking through Mexico…..to me the problem looks huge, very large numbers of illegal migrants heading north, I spoke with one fellow in San Christobal and he was from Venezuela and had walked from Panama to get where he was….he was determined to get to USA to start a new life….that was a sobering experience.

It's laughable that anyone can go through the mental gymnastics to get to the conclusion that 2 million illegal entries into our country in one year is anything other than a complete national security disaster. Yes we have had labor shortages, yes immigration is a good thing, but we have gotten so numb to the norm of illegal immigration that we are forgetting that this is NOT what immigration is supposed to look like: unchecked, unmanaged, unvetted people. We have to have the final say on who gets into this country and who doesn't. Don't ever fall for the "oh well we need workers so this isn't really that bad" delusion

I just renewed my passport. The post offices in Texas are jammed with South of Mexico immigrants. They are discovering that if you climb over the walk to get here, you will have to climb over the wall to leave. You can't just get a passport and fly home to see your relatives.

Let's be real. That bill was not an immigration reform deal. It was a open border deal. Any law that makes daily exceptions for illegal crossing between 5k-7k you don't do any actual border enforcement. That made that border bill a complete non-starter.
Just like I've always said, Biden just had to keep policies in place instead of revoking them on day one of his admin. So he finally caved and reversed back to redo what we would call, "Remain in Mexico." Funny how that is far more effective. Who else did that? Hmmm

A physical barrier is one layer of border security. It will not stop traffic but slow it down to give border patrol more time. A physical barrier is part of a conglomerate of ways to get immigrants to go through the port of entry legally. It is not irrelevant but also not the fix-all.

The labor shortage trope is a self fulfilling trope. No one is having kids because there's no opportunity. There's no opportunity because we keep importing cheap labor.
