I struggled through school, it took me 7 years, but I did it. I worked, did Real Analysis, Abstract Algebra, and Fundamentals of Geometry (300 level proof based geometry) in the last stretch of my math program (second to last semester, I think). It was hard, but I did it. I didn't realize how big of a deal it was until now. Thank you.

I don't know how you do it, but every advice video that you create boosts my moral ten fold. I really needed this during exam season. You are truly a man to look up to sir.

I can't imagine majoring in something like: engineering, math, physics, computer science and working at the same time. I don't think I'd be able to handle it and do well.

Thank you Math Sorcerer. You just continue to pump out content, and it's all super valuable and clearly straight from the heart.
I'm finishing up my junior year and I'm super guilty of #3. I took a moment to think today about how ridiculous it is that I'm getting a free education in a great subject, and I know the value of doing well, but my priorities have been elsewhere and I'm just getting by in school. Cramming for every exam, doing meh in hard and even easy classes. People would kill for the opportunity I have.

Anyway, thank you for the inspiration and I really appreciate the content.

We can't avoid mistakes but we can correct those. Someone said "education is successive realisation of our ignorance(goals). Sometimes, we struggle to learn and it has never been a comfortable journey.

It brings me great joy to see your channel flourish. I came here for the book recommendations when your channel was new and stayed for the motivation and tips.

I’m 23 Just starting over and I decided to go with engineering and I definitely was way to caught up in my time line just because external pressure and money. Thank you for your advice.

Ps. I Just bought Chris McMullens trig book & will definitely check out some of your courses as well

Spot on, Math Sorcerer. There are so many challenges facing college students, apart from the course material, that it takes real skill to navigate through this minefield. Some students need advice and mentoring from successful academics like you. Thank you!

Good advice that goes well beyond any discipline. The semester creeps up on us all and we go from just starting the semester to neck deep in proofs, labs, and solving difficult physics problems. It’s unfortunate that most feel invincible and will do what they want; however, the ones who actually listen to your words will be spared from the turmoil that comes from overcommitment and indeed will be the exception to those that do not heed the warning.

Great advise. I made all these three mistakes. I took six classes per semester and completed 150 credits in four years. I was working part time and did not study during my first two years of college. I made it up by attending graduate school part time while I was working full time.

Taking on too big of a study load, working too much, and not taking it seriously enough. Those also apply to those involved in self-study who want to succeed at their learning. I'm currently self-studying Kalman Filters in order to produce a zero-lag trendline in day trading. No matter how advanced we get, the studying never stops, so it's important to do things right from the beginning. Thanks for your words of advice!

I think a good approach is about 4 classes per semester, 2 hard, 2 easy, sometimes there's 1.0 unit classes that can serve as a 5th class. But the majority of time will be focused on 2 subjects and then you have your 2 lower division courses and electives and even lower level major intro courses. 4 classes in general is the sweet spot in my opinion.
But yeah, 3 tough classes is like just barely making it. I remember barely surviving Ochem 201, Molecular Bio 204, Econ 102 and oceanography 101 because the sciences come with labs which is basically like 6 classes actually.

Right on! Nothing wrong with taking it slow and do it well.

I wished you had made this video a few years earlier. I took 18+ credits one semester and had 5 pretty time-consuming classes, needless to say, I suffered extensively and gained 10 lbs, and cheated on many projects just to scrape by.

I have friends who can handle this type of rigor but they have been ranked top 100 on the Putnam exam so it's not a good idea for me to compare myself to them.
