I feel as if Iori could have been Cartman since he's always the one instigating violence when those 2 meet, but then again, he also happens to be the most mature of the 2, so having him as Kyle makes a lot of sense as well.

I can confirm Iori is the true protagonist os KOF, and Kyo is Cartman in every sense

Technicaly, it would be the opposite, since Iori is the one that wants to fight (and in most games, kill) Kyo in the first place, while Kyo just wanna have his good time skipping school, fighting in tournaments and being scolded by his girlfriend for skipping school
