Those nurses just sprung into action! Whoever mounted those monitors to the computers in that office deserves a raise.

I’d have felt so helpless if I was one of those nurses. When I was a baby we had an earthquake and we lived in this little run down government house. It was just me and Mom, and she scooped me up, looked for a safe place, but the whole house was rocking and shaking. She put me in her shirt (it was cold out) and ran into the backyard. We lived kind of in the middle of nowhere, so she got surrounded by nothing pretty quickly.

There was some damage to the house and some mighty light sleeping for her and da for the next few nights.

Also, the desk monitors seem like they’re positively bolted to the desks. 😯

Taiwan Kindergarten Teacher Lin Jing-juan, who saved children with her life

On May 15, 1992, 53 students, parents, and teachers from the private Jian-Kang Kindergarten in Taipei City went on a trip to the Leofoo Village theme park in Hsinchu County. They happily set off for their destination on a large tour bus.
Unexpectedly, when the tour bus was driving in Pingzhen City, Taoyuan County (now Pingzhen District, Taoyuan City), the vibration of the vehicle caused the old power cord inside the vehicle to short-circuit. The wire caught fire and ignited the flammable materials inside the vehicle, eventually causing the vehicle to explode and catch fire.
At that time, a total of 23 people inside the vehicle were unable to escape and were burned alive. They included 20 children under the age of 6, 2 parents of students, and teacher Lin Jing-juan.
After the accident, the rescued children, other teachers involved in the rescue, and parents all spoke about Lin Jing-juan's heroic act.
They said that at the time of the incident, Lin Jing-juan had already left the burning tour bus, but in order to save the children, she rushed into the bus again and again. Seven children were rescued one after another, but when she turned around to hug the remaining children, the front of the tour bus exploded, killing everyone trapped inside.
When the fire was extinguished, the tour bus was burned to the ground, leaving only a skeleton. When the forensic doctor inspected the scene, he found that Teacher Lin Jing-juan, who had already been burned to a crisp, was still holding four children in her arms when she died. She tried to use her body to block the fire and protect the young children.

Society is touched, officials weep

After the investigation results of the accident were released, the responsible parties were punished accordingly, and the Taiwan Ministry of Education and other departments also issued new regulations to prevent similar tragedies from happening again. However, what attracted the most attention from society was the great act of kindness of Teacher Lin Jing-juan.

Lee Teng-hui, the President of Taiwan, expressed his great admiration for Lin Jing-juan, who sacrificed herself to save others. President Lee Teng-hui invited sculptor Pu Tien-sheng to sculpt a memorial statue for Lin Jing-juan.
The statue was placed in the Park of Taipei Fine Arts Museum on September 28, 1998, Teachers' Day, so that people will always remember the heroic act of Teacher Lin Jing-juan.

In the sculpture, Teacher Lin Jing-juan holds a child in her arms and raises her left hand to hold a butterfly. The design inspiration for the entire sculpture is the "phoenix reborn from the ashes", "transformed into 8 beautiful butterflies".

On September 3, 1999, the Military Martyrs' Shrine, the Ministry of National Defense of Taiwan placed the tablet of Teacher Lin Jing-juan in the Taipei Martyrs' Shrine, making her the first non-military and police martyr in Taiwan.
