Hydra also has connection to GIJoe. Back in the early 80's Hasbro wanted to do an action figure line called Fury Force with Nick Fury's son as the head of an elite counter-terrorist organization. Their main enemy would have been Hydra. Hasbro redesigned the line to bring back G.IJoe instead and decided to ditch Hydra as the main enemy. Still liking the snake motif, someone in Hasbro decided to call it Cobra instead.

In the MCU, Hydra was started for the inhuman Hive, initially to bring him back to Earth from Maveth. Hive is called the Hydra God and even the logo is based on him. That is Hydra’s true origin.
