What is the most popular programming language in Japan?

I'm a Software Engineer in Japan and I'm going to break down the analytics on the top 5 programming languages in Japan. Is it Java? JavaScript? Python? Stick around for this short video and find out.

Are you learning to code and want to get a tech job in Japan? You'll need to be an expert at one of these programming languages.

Want to get my personal help for getting into the tech industry, moving to Japan, or becoming a freelance web developer? Check out my Shopify website here:

You can schedule a consultation call, join my Apprentice Program, buy the recording from my live webinar, etc.

About me:
I started coding in August 2021 on Free Code Camp. Two years later, I was working my first job as a Software Developer for a Japanese tech company.

I has also started my own Shopify store and now have 3+ years of experience as a Shopify Developer. I consider myself a mid-level Shopify Developer now, moving beyond the junior developer level (although my role and skills at the day job at the tech company is still very much junior level).

I started getting freelance clients on Upwork back in 2024 and quickly started matching my full-time income with freelance Shopify development on the side.

I'm now helping people break into the tech industry with real work experience from my freelance projects, with my Apprentice Program. (see link above)

What does the future hold? Probably starting my own tech company. We are starting with a Shopify development studio, Web Dev Japan LLC. Let's see where it goes from there.

If you want to get a job at big companies like Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Elon Musk, you'll probably want to learn Go.

My favorite programming language is #javascript

The main issue I have with Japanese dev jobs is the salaries are so uncompetitive

Interesting that the Japanese companies are basically the only ones that actually value the certifications. It basically doesn't do much in the US, except maybe AWS certs

Java--It's absolutely my favorite out of all the programming/scripting languages, next in line is Python, Kotlin. Thanks for the vid.

this is a reflection of the companies. java is an old enterprise language. only place i still see it used on new projects is in finance just from the copy cat effect since banks big surprise also still use it. basically the same thing for php. if you look at a more international, and tech startup you're obviously not going to see that.

Hello! Loved your videos from India!
I'm a freshman computer science major from not a famous Uni, currently diving into DSA with C++. My plan is to finish it by year-end, then jump into development while hitting LeetCode medium to hard questions simultaneously. I'm really excited to jump into and explore other language's as well.
I'm really keen on working in Japan after graduation. What's a very realistic roadmap for a fresher to get hired there? Also, when should I seriously start learning Japanese? Does getting good at competitive programming, along with having strong projects, give me a significant edge for a higher starting salary in Japan as a fresher? Do we need masters to target higher salaries? does having internship Experience from India can help me get a job?
The Reason I'm asking so much question is because Indian IT sector is saturating and very hard to get a job as fresher from not so famous Uni. My seniors recommended me to learn the language of the country like any EU union one and tech scarcity country in future like Japan, Korea etc.
Thank you for giving me another perspective about getting job in Japan because I used to though the country like Japan are very isolated about there culture so getting job will be tough.
