3DR Solo M8N GPS Upgrade.

Bought a 3DR Solo whilst in the USA and as the original GPS units can be a little suspect I decided to upgrade it to an M8N unit. Bought a BN 800 from Bangood for £14 and here is how I installed it into my 3DR Solo. I test flew the setup breifly for the first time tonight and had a constant 19 to 20 Sats received during the flight. Please Rate, Comment or Subscribe thanks for watching.

Great video! However I would also love to see a wiring diagram to connect the stock 3dr harness to the bn800.... just recieved mine on Friday and can't seem to find wiring info anywhere. I'm a noob to drones BTW. Thanks again for the video!

It's really very easy... The stock Cirocomm antenna is also slightly less sensitive than a Taoglas antenna (such as used in the original Solo GPS). The Cirocomm antenna can be replaced with a Taoglas antenna purchased for approx $5 which will boost the performance of the BN-800 to a point where it is equal to a much more expensive mRo unit.
Don't overlook the importance of shielding the GPS module from local RF noise which can degrade GPS performance on the Solo. The 3M™ EMI Absorber AB7003HF material works good.

Thanks for the video, very informative on placement, but you skipped right over the most challenging part...matching up the wiring. Was the stock BN-800 cable an exact match for the Solo? I suspect that took a bit of modding. I do appreciate the video, as it convinced me that the BN-800 will fit into the cowling nicely. One of my Solos is a clunker fixed from broken parts and I don't want to invest a lot into improving it. This is a cheaper alternative to getting an M8N under the hood (bonnet).
