Bobby Caldwell - My Flame (Guitar Cover)

I think I was first exposed to Bobby Caldwell from 2Pac's 'Do For Love' track, which of course sampled the amazing 'What You Won't Do For Love.' I don't remember being aware of The Notorious B.I.G's use of 'My Flame' in his track 'Sky's The Limit,' but that may be where you first heard this one.

Anyway, it was my brother who really got into Bobby's work, especially his Heart of Mine album and I distinctly remember hearing it for the first time and not being able to follow the opening bass line of his song 'All or Nothing At All.' Once you are able to appreciate what's going on, you soon come to realise that not only does Bobby have a tremendous voice, one of the smoothest around, but he is also an incredible songwriter with a chord vocabulary that could rival a musical Shakespeare.

I really love this track and I wanted the challenge of figuring out the chords going on, as well as the slick solo work towards the end. There's a chord chart for it on some sites but they seem to miss quite obvious changes so I wanted to make sure I was thorough and got everything as best as I could.

I use a Charvel DK24 (it's purple) into a Boss Me50 into a Palmer Pdi-09 into a Focusrite Scarlett into my computer running Logic Pro X.

"What You Won't Do For Love" was one of those songs I heard all the time as a kid and I always liked it, but once I heard this one (after looking up the sample for the Biggie song, just on a whim), I think I like it more now. I was listening to other songs of his for the first time last week and I'm a true fan now.
