Here are the first images of the next Acura MDX, mid-size three-row SUV. Acura calls this a prototype but in reality this is what the MDX will look like. Acura will show the full production version closer to the introduction in early 2021. There will also be a Type S version coming in the summer of 2021. Before we get to the deign everyone wants to know the power, especially of the Type S. The base model is a 3.5L V6 and a 10-speed automatic transmission. No power numbers for this engine but the current 3.5L MDX has 290hp, so close to that. The Type S will have a turbo 3.0L V6 with an estimated 355hp and 354lb.-ft. of torque with standard 4th generation SH-AWD.
This new MDX looks nothing like the current model but certainly has a resemblance to the latest RDX. The idea was to develop a flagship SUV that has a low and wide stance with a long hood and sleek cabin. It could be argued that the Mazda CX-9 already has a similar approach. In fact, the long hood increases the dash to axle dimension by a full six inches. The grille has the latest Diamond Pentagon grille and JewelEye LED headlamps and LED daytime running lights. This wheelbase has been increased by a full three inches and the prototype you see here has 21-inch wheels. It’s not confirmed but this wheel is likely the size used for the Type S. The longer wheelbase means more room over the three rows inside, notably more headroom for front and third-row occupants. An ultra-wide panoramic moonroof opens the cabin up to provide natural light. Acura sport seats offer 16-way power adjustment and integrated massage functionality with nine massage modes to relax the driver and front passenger. Notice the more upright instrument panel. Materials including open-pore wood with infused metallic flake, polished aluminum and soft-touch Milano leather. The Acura sport seats offer a more sculpted form with quilting in all three rows, gradient perforation, and high-contrast stitching and piping. Acura’s all-digital cockpit replaces physical gauges with a customizable 12.3-inch instrument cluster. The new MDX also gets the latest generation of Acura’s True Touchpad Interface, featuring a 12.3-inch, plus a touch pad. Notice the volume knob next to it, well done Acura!
Acura claims that this is the most rigid SUV to date to support Type S-levels of performance as well as advanced collision and pedestrian safety. Anchored to the ultra-rigid new body is a new performance-focused chassis featuring MDX’s first-ever double wishbone front suspension, delivering sharp and sporty handling with improved road holding and ride comfort. Stopping performance is enabled with Brembo® four-piston brake calipers, finished in Ivory paint, at all four corners.
The first MDX was introduced in 2000 and it was the first premium mid-size utility to come standard with 3-rows of seats. In fact, the MDX has carved out a massive following and it is the best-selling premium SUV on the market. No pricing yet, that will come when we get the production version. Once again, this new MDX will arrive in early 2021 and the Type S in the summer of 2021. We’ll have to wait to drive it but it certainly looks great, what do you think? Please subscribe for more COVID virtual car releases, they are coming almost every week and thanks for watching the information on the next Acura MDX.

Aggressive but sophisticated, and really well done evolution of the 3rd generation model. This will sell really well. Great style, great performance, and reliable.

Finally Acura has made their MDX noticeably distinct with the interior. Even from the first MDX, they felt too Honda-ish. Consistently Infiniti has been offering more style with their badge premium. This is the first Acura SUV that has an interior worthy of turning my head. The digital dash is a nice bonus. The Kia/Hyundai products should be fine. But both Lexus and Infiniti should pay attention. Thanks for the video.

Very nice. Happy Acura is keeping the reliable 3.5L V6 as the base engine. 🙌🏻

Great job Acura on going back to a bit more of that sporty & classy look we loved from all the other MDX models minus the last generation. Good on you Acura 👌

this is what the new TLX needs: a digital cockpit

They are going to try to drive the price up by 10k I suspect. That touchpad is a dealbreaker for me - but the styling will make this popular I have no doubt.

The front end and the side profile looks really good. The rear is Bland and looks like an Infinit to me

Looks fantastic. I wouldn't berate it by drawing similarities with the new RDX, which I don't find too attractive (at least the back half of it). Hopefully they've addressed some of the issues that have plagued the new RDX, like over-active gear switching, and a very clunky infotainment system.

Looks nice. I like this update. Any news for a sports hybrid version? I think they are missing out if they don't offer this to the market.

The exterior looks sophisticated and well-proportioned The wheel design mimics the Acura logo.

The interior is a big improvement. Digital dash is a welcome feature but the infotainment interface is too quirky.

Solid effort from Acura. 👍

Everyone will talk about the S, but in reality it sounds like the vast majority of buyers will get the same old V6. Solid if unexciting power plant IMO. Maybe they'll tweak a few more horses out, but that V6 is from another era. Top end interior looks good. We'll have to wait and see about lower trims. Hopefully this MDX sells well. Acura needs a boost with other luxury brands continually upping their game. Interesting there's no hybrid option, or rumoured option, at launch. Honda/Acura is behind the curve in that regard.

Looks okay...it looks a lot like the cx-9 which isn’t ugly, but not my favourite . I like the current MDX silhouette more. Also, it has a digital dash but it doesn’t look like it has a map or navigation view which seems like a miss to me.

If you just had the plug-in hybrid to go with all that great enhancement you would not be able to make enough to keep up with demand. What happened to the hybrid you used to make a year ago? Just wondering...

I wonder if the 3.0 turbo will carry over to Honda. Example the upcoming new Pilot.

If the grille was shrunk down to 75% this size, it would be a really good looking SUV.

Looks nice and sporty. Current MDX looked kinda weird and bloated.
