That evening their path lay along the great swamps of Dotorava, where huge trees grew, forming entire islands above the azure water. Green vines hung from the very top, trying to get to the desired water, and yellow fruits grew on their long and wet stems, which were visible from a long distance. Every now and then large colorful birds flew from the islands to the mainland, and by nightfall the detachment had shot a dozen of them.
The hunters stopped for a rest next to a small tributary that flowed into an azure swamp. The squad ate. The meat was sweetish, and the bones were soft like cartilage. The feathers were carefully pulled out and placed in a separate box. This jewel will fetch a good price in northern cities.
The fires crunched pleasantly, and the light hypnotized the gloomy hunters, who had not seen their home for a couple of moons, wandering across the boundless plains of Dhula Daghobada in search of rare prey. And now they are finally going home, and a couple of dozen horses loaded with valuable furs and goods warmed their cold souls.
Some of the hunters were already asleep when a barely audible splash was heard from the direction of the swamp... A couple of sentries became wary, but a second later wooden spears, slimy with algae, were sticking out of their throats. The air was filled with the sounds of croaking and screams of people who did not understand anything. And then silence and splashes of water... Happy listening!
