What is the most common way to enter the water as a scuba diver? Well, if the title didn't give it away, it is the Giant Stride. The Giant Stride is the most common way for divers to enter the water from a boat, from a dock, and from basically any platform. While backroll entry, front roll entry, side roll entry, beach entry (wading into the water), and others are also seen, the giant stride is by far the most commonly practiced technique. Great point you made about how scary it can be to see and hear someone hitting a tank while doing an entry. I see more and more DM’s and instructors giving folks a “push” to help clear the way. Not a bad idea at all. On a another, unrelated note, I’m hoping you can pass on your opinion with this one. What is your take on recreational divers using regulator necklaces (for primary)? Standard recreational setup with Octo secured, but primary on a necklace for convenience. I fully agree that training for a standard reg recovery is essential, but I also see the merits of having a necklace for your primary once you’ve finished training. Giant stride or shore entry are two examples where a necklace could be convenient. Easier to find my reg if it’s right under my chin at all times! I’m interested in your take. Keep up the great work… 10k not far off at all!!

Intro just played and I’m hoping for the “why do divers roll backwards out of the boat?” Joke

Great video, brother. Really nice backlog you’re building and exactly the kinda thing newer divers are looking for 👍

Strap on a Rubber (or Silicone) Weight Belt with a Marseilles Buckle, and it will not accidently come off! They also compensate for wetsuit compression, so your belt will not loosen at depth.

I recommend not having your heel too close to the edge of the dock. I saw someone barely clear the dock when their heel slipped because the diver entering before them splashed the dock and it became slippery.

I aim to have my toe box right over the edge and, when it's safe, fully commit with your stride.

👍😎🇵🇭🤿Got to admit I screwed up one time and completely lost my mask and a fellow diver retrieved it for me🤣. Just talking to much and not thinking about proper entry! A little embarrassed as we laughed it off but made sure it didn’t happen again 😎!
