What a heartwarming story. I am an animal lover. I love dogs the most but I have 3 cats that I love also. We have a Black Lab, she is our second one. Our 1st black Lab was 105 pounds, she was a big girl and lived to be 14 years old. Now out Black Lab we have now is 5 years and weighs 96 pounds, she's a big girl too. Such loyalty, and love and obedient and friendly, she is as our other one was too. Our 1 cat is 18, then 11 then 8 years old. I must be doing something right. I love dachshunds as well and always had 1 since I was 5 years old. I am now looking for one. Our last 2 dachshunds, 1 lived to be 14 and the other 19. They were so precious too. That vet needs to straighten up or he's going to have no patients!
