Dr. Yang's tai chi lineage can be traced back to the Yang family through Grandmaster Kao, Tao (高濤) and his teacher Yue, Huanzhi (樂奐之), an indoor disciple of Yang, Chengfu (楊澄甫).
Taijiquan (Tai Chi Chuan) is an ancient internal Chinese martial art which has gained widespread popularity for its many health benefits. Today, most people practice taiji slowly to develop their balance, strength, and vitality, and the martial applications of the art are often ignored. Taijiquan, or 'Grand Ultimate Fist', is a highly effective form of combat specializing in short and middle-range fighting.
Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming offers practical martial applications for each of the 37-postures of traditional Taiji, based on the forms passed down by Yang, Ban-Hou. Once the viewer has a basic understanding of these universal principles, you may use them to devise further applications for every movement no matter which style of Taiji you practice.

The reason why people discredit tai chi is because not enough people study the combat applications of tai chi. You don’t fight like you’re doing a kata, but utilize the correct movement at the correct time for maximum effect.

I take Tai Chi classes to help me with strength and balance because I have reactive arthritis in all of my joints. My teacher has been teaching us the martial arts reasons behind each movement of the form because so many of us in the class are so vulnerable and could not run away from an attack if we tried. I love the meditative aspect but I think learning to use the movements to protect oneself is vital if you have a mobility handicap. Next I think he will teach us how to read the vulnerability of an attacker. That is probably months down the road. But I really do appreciate Tai Chi and what it has to offer.

Funny to see this in my recommendations more than 20 years after I used to be affiliated to the school in Paris and had many books from the Doctor Yang Jwing Ming.

What a load of bull... This guy is not even using force and the other guy is falling down. Any guy with basic boxing, mma or ground game would kill that master within a minute. Tai chi is healthy and helps to develop good balance and body control. Never use it in a street fight though or you will end up in a body bag.

Is this dancing or what. Stop it, embarrassing. Taichi is for old people. The one you saw in movie, is just movie. In real fight Taichi and Wingchun is useless.
