I like how the guy gets kind of emotive in the beginning when you mention "the journey". He says "they're luxury items but I can't live without them". I think home theater is a special hobby because it is extremely rare to hear *really* good sound and be somewhere totally quiet so you can be taken somewhere else. It's not just about wanting more SPL or a wider sound stage or whatever. It's about being transported.

I am looking for a preamp but need some knowledge. Specifically, does the preamp need to support same ohms as the amp and speakers?

I transitioned from a 10-inch Infinity subwoofer and a 12-inch Dayton audio $150 sub to dual 18-inch DIY subs in a Full Marty enclosure. Surprisingly, I spent less on the enclosures and two 18-inch subwoofers with a Crown 2502 amp than on the Infinity and Dayton combined. The value of DIY is unbeatable. Its quality was confirmed when, during a viewing of 'Into the Storm, ' my neighbor messaged my wife on Facebook, requesting we lower the volume because it sounded like a tornado was tearing through her house.

Glad you went with Kaleidescape, pretty sure I suggested this over a year ago and got some grief LOL! Def not a 1:1 copy though. A 4K disc is capped at 66gb, Kaleidescape content files average 80-90gb.

I, myself, have dual mini-martys, 18” Dayton ultimax and they to seriously hard lol even though my house is on a slab, I can still feel the bass lol I will never go back, if anything I’m going to build 2 more for the room
