Welcome!

In this video I'll be reacting to both the studio (ft. Avi Kaplan) and live (Sing Off) version of Ring of Fire from 5 man a cappella group Home Free. How will they go with this classic Johnny Cash song? Guess you'll have to watch to find out!

Had a tenor voice teacher tell me how in all the musicals, the tenor gets the girl. My bass response: not behind stage.

If you like Tim singing high, try "Mayday" Home Free Cover. :)

“Do you hear what I hear” is something I strongly recommend

I like to think of Tim as rich, strong black coffee, While Avi is deeply dark coffee with cream.

The live version was their first ever performance of the song. They arranged and practiced the performance in a week. Just. One. Week. Harmonies, runs, the theme break, everything. That they managed this performance in so short a time is hell impressive. The studio performance was months later, so no surprise they polished the performance somewhat.

Oh, and F#1. He can go lower. Tim's lowest chest note is a nice, clean F1. He can growl out a B0. His falsetto tops out some 5 octaves up from that.

Not sure Tim is actually human.

There are 3 songs you need to do
1. Home free cover of Mayday
2. Home free cover of Elvira featuring The Oakridge Boys
3. Peter Hollens cover of Misty Mountains featuring Tim Foust

You pointed out that Tim hit a low G in the first one, but you didn’t seem to notice that the live one was a half step lower so he hit an F#!

The live version didn't exist before this sing off, they chose the song and had about 10 hours to come up with this arrangement. This was their debut of Johnny Cash's song. The first one you played w/Avi was much later.
