Take a good look at this and compare it to what happened at Chernobyl. Same-same. Faulty designs, cutting corners, lack of safety protocols and training, ignoring potential and even blatant dangers, rosy assumptions, etc etc etc. That's Russia. The real tragedy of this disaster is that as events of the last 18 months have graphically shown little has changed. Poorly trained and paid men led into battle with poorly maintained and untested weapons and a navy that has effectively been pushed out of the Black Sea by a country without a navy loosing a major portion of its capital ships in the process.

Poor maintenance and a bodged carefree attitude seems to run right through the Russian military. The 'special operation' currently chewing up all parts of their military back bone both in hardware and man power at a frightening rate, has again highlighted just how makeshift many aspects of their military power is second rate.

You are incorrect about magnetic anomaly detection (MAD). Primary search sensors used by aircraft and submarines are passive sonar, not MAD. In fact MAD is not installed on the P-8A Poseidon aircraft. Current degaussing methods have pretty much rendered MAD obsolete.
