I actually had someone named Isis in my class for a few years. When I mentioned her to my parents they were so confused about the name and were asking questions and I had no idea what the big deal was lol.

Most unfortunate bilingual name trajedy was a boy in my class. His parents were French and didn't speak any english. He was born in canada though so they wanted him to have an 'American' sounding name to help him fit in and given the popularity of harry potter, they named him Harry. What they failed to realize is that when your last name is Anas naming your child Harry is not a good plan to help him out socially. Harry Anas is quite a name to put on your resume

I teach a child called Dodo. I’m now used to the name and the kid is delightful but I still make sure I concentrate on that class a lot more just to ensure the kid leaves my class in as good a condition as they arrived in.

I once worked with a woman who explained how she named her daughter. She stated that while pregnant she asked her husband for name suggestions and before replying he happened to glance over at a bottle of cleaner. So, he blurted out the first thing that came to his mind - the name of the cleaner - Tidy - as in Tidy Bowl toilet cleaner. She actually liked the sound of it and thus named her daughter Tidy Lou. I almost asked her if she realized that she just basically named her daughter "clean toilet." lol

Can I just say isis (the goddess)
1) is not a Greek goddess and is Egyptian
2)is the goddess of magic and healing not nature

Edit: I was not aware of this but Aset (the original Egyptian name) has nature as part of her associations. I was only aware of the magic and medicine associations. I love learning and mythology so this is showing how incompetent I can be which is called the duning Kruger effect but now I'm going on a tangent sorry. My point being: thank you everyone and I hope we can all keep learning about historical cultures happily by sharing our knowledge with everyone

In 1989 I walked into an old post office in Allentown Pennsylvania. Whilst in line, I looked at the mosaic floor...., full of swastikas. I learned that the post office was from the 1920s and the symbol was religious. Jack's response was my response..., "Not, anymore!" I couldn't believe that flooring survived WW2.

She was the Egyptian goddess of fertility and motherhood (also the goddess of magic, death, healing and rebirth). Her name is the Greek form of an ancient Egyptian name for “throne”. (I googled all these facts, just because… 😊) Anyway, I love Jack’s standup comedy! He’s absolutely brilliant!

When I was 8, I had a substitute teacher who took over the class for a month. His name, and I kid you not, was Mr. Dick 😔

Jake is incredblie funny. However, I must say this Isis is the name of an Egyptian Goddess not Greek. And as someone going for a degree in Archaeology specializing in Egyptology it broke my heart to hear that chose that name for such horrible people.

Funnily the Buddhist symbol is noticeably different from the swastiki sits at an angle, where as the Buddhist symbol sits at a right angle and has four dots next to each arm, the swatiki actually comes from a Finnish symbol, which was originally a Norse rune meaning lightning or a lightning bolt

This happened to my sister Arielle, (pronounced Are-EE-El) because my mom liked the name. Then a little film called "The Little Mermaid" came out and swept the world by storm. Cue 30 years of constantly correcting everyone who called her "Ariel" because of that Jamaican crab. It actually helped her out when she started up a swim school, so...
