MASSIVE LAYOFFS Are Pushing People To Move Back in With their Parents

The number of tech sector layoffs in 2024 has been outpacing the number of terminations in 2023. In 2023, nearly 263,000 tech employees got laid off, averaging to about 720 layoffs each day that year.
One of the biggest reasons of the massive layoffs is AI or Artificial Intelligence.
Nowadays, because of student debt and high housing costs, many young adults say they have no choice but to move back home because of the high cost of living. And their numbers are growing.
According to the latest U.S. Census data, 1 in 3 adults between the ages of 18 and 34 still live with their parents.

If you’re single why do you need a 3 bedroom apartment???

I think Americans should start embracing multigenerational living especially with the state of the economy. I do and I love it. It’s a blessing to have a safety net. Most other countries consider this normal .

I don’t understand the impulse to complain about your family safety net like it’s a burden on the internet.

I grew up in NYC and I'll be damned if I pay $2000 for that closet sized apt. You might as well live in a van at that point. It's the same size but cheaper.

U.S. citizens need to organize themselves as workers, and start making collective decisions about the management of their own society, and ignore what the profiteering self-alleged "owners" say. The ownerclass are doltish, too insulated from the real world to comprehend how anything works.

Beggars can’t choose. And they should not complain about what they are given.

1993 me: Yep, know exactly how you feel. 4 guys living in a 2 bedroom apartment. Working 60 hours per week in part-time jobs (no one was hiring full time). Went back to school on loans. Joined the army to pay for med school. It was tough.

"People" are moving back with parents? You mean WOMEN are moving back with their parents. I bet if there was a job like electricity creation where they could use the kinetic energy from running their jaws all the time, women would be filthy rich.

The median rent here in Australia is $580 AUD per week ($378.28 USD) which is basically $1500 per month. Its not just America affected, just be lucky that your food is quotation "cheap" compared to everything else here.

As crazy at it seems, limit your spending to only things that matter. Food is relatively cheap, I think on average it only costs 1-2k annually per person to cook at home. If you eat out everyday, will be about 5-10k annually per person. There’s nothing wrong with moving back into your parent’s home. Hell, the money you save not paying rent is insane. You can buy or save up a lot. I don’t pay rent and travel 6-9 months of the year all over the world. Spend time on things that bring you joy. It is by fact cheaper to travel the world than live in America.

Millennial here. Welcome to your 20s. I feel like most of us had to go through the SAME thing. I didn't finish paying for my school from my early 20s until I was in my 30s. It sucks.

I thought with the nationwide shortages of staff, I THOUGHT that there were NO layoffs.

That's what you get paid for not accepting accountability ignoring the steps to take issue by the late Kevin Samuel, so it's clear to see why Y'all choose to buy a dog and go to hell.
