“You have to be realistic”. I’ve read every book in The First Law universe several times and they never get stale. Joe Ambercrombie is an absolute master storyteller. The Audiobooks are outstanding. Steven Pacey is a treasure. Highest possible recommendation!

First Law World is trully astonishing.Currently reading book 9 The trouble with peace and I absolutely love IT.
To me, Abercrombie is up there with Sanderson. ❤

This review is perfect. The books are amazing and written so carefully and intentionally. I want the series to make it to television. But you have to be realistic.

I'm currently in the middle of the final First Law book and am loving. Thanks for helping metastasize the word about this great series and author.

This is unrelated to this video, but THANK YOU SO MUCH for your "15 Things To AVOID When Writing Fantasy" video! It's going to transform my writing tremendously! 😊 Thank you! 🤗💙

As an avid reader who is new to fantasy, I really enjoy these videos! I'm navigating my way thru these new fantasy worlds- and I love these brief, spoiler-free signposts. 3 Minute Recommendations I'd like to see: The Dandelion Dynasty, The Licanius Trilogy, The Bound and The Broken, Book of the Ancestor trilogy, and any Michael J Sullivan. Keep up the good work! I know you might not have read all these (I'm realistic about these things...) Abercrombie is my first discovery in fantasy. He's wow. Just...wow.

I read the first law trilogy as probably the third or fourth fantasy series I’ve read after ASOIAF and Stormlight. It’s top tier work with regards to characters

One of my favorite books is The Letter for the King, I haven't seen many YouTube channels talk about it, and I think it is incredible along with its sequel The Secrets of the Wild Wood

Have you read the Faithful and the Fallen by John Gwynne? I just started the second book yesterday, and it's been a wild ride! If you haven't heard of it, it's a four book series that perfectly blends classic and modern fantasy. There's a lot of classic tropes (chosen one, war between good and evil gods, etc.), but it's written in a fast-paced modern style. Malice, book 1, is slow to start, as it has to do a lot of setup, but around the half way mark, it starts moving like a highstorm 😂. John Gwynne writes action like he's John Wick. I haven't been so immersed in a fight scene since "The Sky and the Winds are mine." From everything I've heard, each book gets better, as Gwynne improves on his writing each time. If you haven't checked them out already, I can't recommend them enough, and I'd love to see a review of them!

First Law enjoyers are usually team Logen or team Glokta. Why does noone talk about the Dogman and the gang? They are absolutely the best part

Thank you - scouring the net for my next Audible recommendation. I heard Pacey was good and for me narration is everything.

I realized something when rereading the first law trilogy that I didn't realize till now. A lot of people compare Abercrombie to Martin or a subversion of Tolkien, I think he's more akin to David Eddings.

Let me explain: nothing in the first law is that subversive or unique, frankly its filled with old tropes you'd have seen in fantasy since its inception. The introspective old warrior, the selfish blond fop, the enigmatic wizard with a dark scheme. I could see everything coming a mile away, but I didnt care at all. It was so engaging with great dialogue and wonderful pacing.

It reminded me so much of the Belgariad. Nothing in the belgariad was shocking or nes or unique from the farmboy chosen one to the wizard mentor, but it was written so well with such engaging characters and good dialogue that you didn't care, you were just along for the ride.

I think thats how I would describe him, as a grimdark version of David Eddings. You know whats coming but its written so wonderfully and with such amazing characters you dont care.
