Are you at wits end trying to remove a wheel hub assembly that's seemingly welded itself to the knuckle? Check this trick out!

You will need to harvest a brake rotor either from your vehicle (DO NOT use your currently installed rotor, you WILL damage it) or one with the same bolt pattern. In this instance, I used a REAR rotor, as it does not have cooling vanes and is a bit thinner. Also you'll need a sledgehammer and a pipe wrench (the longer the length of both the better)

Install the rotor backwards onto the hub and place the pipe wrench tightly at the 12 o'clock position. Take a whack or 3 (or however many it takes) at the end of the pipe wrench and she should pop free!!

As I mentioned, in order to facilitate easy removal in the future, it's a good idea to clean up the mounting surface of the knuckle using a wire wheel on the end of a drill, or some sandpaper, or whatever you have handy. Clean the surface with some brake cleaner, then coat it with some grease (I don't recommend Anti-Sieze, as it will dry out and you'll find yourself in the same predicament.)

This is what I used in the video:

Your tutorial + $50 at Harbor Freight for a 36" pipe wrench and a 10lb sledgehammer = success!! Many thanks for sharing!

This worked! i spend 3 hours trying all sorts of other tricks and was ready to buy an ADT hub buster. Was already replacing the rotors and brakes so i tried this and 10 whacks and it broke loose.

Thanks! Worked for a few hours tryijng EVERYTHING including heat. Felt like I wasted the whole day. Finally looked at your vid, ran to HF (of course the one closest to me was out), picked up the 36" for $26 inc. tax. Came loose on about the 8th wack. After 4 I was wondering but BAM! it was off in less than 10 min from getting back home.

OMG this was brilliant!!! I was my wits end trying to get my wheel bearing/hub assembly out of my 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I had an old rotor that I had attached to the hub, and I was using a slug hammer trying to unseat the hub, but it would not moving. Using your method, it took two not that hard hits to free the hub. Thanks!!!

I LOVE this solution! So simple (simple is always good) and uses standard, durable tools. Perfect!

Spent over an hour trying to get that f**ker off today. Then I found this video. I didn't have an old rotor so I put heavy cardboard on each side. Instead of a sledge, I used a heavy rubber mallet. Took a few more wacks but it worked and I didn't damage the rotor. Thank

That's truly amazing!! This is exactly what I'm trying right now on my 03 explorer front hub. Glad I saved my old rotor. Thanks for the video.

I will say, I watched this and thought, no... However, desperation makes you willing to trying anything. I did not do the reverse brake rotor, I put the wrench right on the hub.. I used a much smaller pipe wrench, about 8", to start. After hitting it with a 3 lb hammer several times I saw the hub starting to break free. I switched to a 12" pipe wrench tapping it around and around until it broke free. Thank you very much for the video. Once again, YouTube saves the day!

Worked for this weekend on the rear wheel of a 2013 Cadillac CTS. I used a 18" pipe wrench and a 8lb sledgehammer to remove my stuck wheel hub. Tried slide hammer and hitting on the old hub or bolted old rotor. None of previous attempts worked. This pipe wrench method works!

Making it look easy. XD Ive been beating the crap out of this rear wheel bearing assembly for the last hour while also using penetrating oil, and it still hasnt budged. XD

I knew there was an easy way to get those suckers off! All the other videos have you hitting the small area at the back of the knuckle. I was thinking a gear puller but the center moves. Gotta go get my old rotor I threw out. I need to do these front bearings soon.
