In this video, we explore the internal debate within the Philippine Navy over its future fleet strategy. Should the Navy strengthen its surface fleet, invest in submarines, or focus on a mix of both? This discussion dives into the two main camps: those advocating for low-intensity operations with patrol vessels and those pushing for war-capable assets designed for high-stakes territorial defense.

We also uncover how the Philippine Coast Guard's modernization plans might influence the Navy’s strategy, with an increasing focus on taking over low-intensity missions like maritime law enforcement and patrols. Meanwhile, some Navy leaders argue that the fleet should prioritize more powerful assets like corvettes, frigates, and missile boats to prepare for medium to high-intensity threats.

Will the Philippine Navy continue to invest in cheaper, more versatile patrol vessels, or will it make a bold move towards building a fleet of modern warships? Watch the video to find out, and let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

The PN obviously needs assets designed for medium to high-intensity operations. Otherwise, what's the point of having all of these joint inter-operatability exercise if PN's assets can't even remotely come close to the capabilities of other allied navies. Ano, manonood na lang ang PN habang ginagamit ang mga hi-tech na assets ng ibang navies? What's the use of learning how to use all of those hi-end systems if there's no such equipment to use.... The PN will just have to strike a balance between all the needs. All of these problems are just the result of decades of neglect by the government on military upgrade and will eventually be resolved if it keeps on improving itself as fast as possible. Assigning some of the roles with low intensity needs, to other govt agencies will also help.

PH should focus on building the artificial islands in contested reefs to make the claim tangible and permanent just like China and Vietnam have been doing. No matter how much we invest in ships we will never match China's massive navy, it is current the biggest Navy in the world surpassing US in sheer number.
