Can you imagine being a 18-22 year old boy with no experience in life in late 1930s early 40s. From a small town in the mid west US just out of school. Forced or volunteered into the war effort. Put into a giant metal loud aircraft which at that time was just unheard of for most people. Taken almost half way around the world into continent with a entire different culture for some war you only heard stories about. No Social media updates, no GPS, never really knowing where you are unless word of mouth or a map. Never knowing your mission. And finally when you are up in the air you with speeches letting you know that you might not even come back alive. Flying minutes upon hours. One minute you're flying with stomach ache and anxiety and the next there is 6 inch shells hurling through your plane. Ripping apart everything around you. Screams of your crew. Watching some of your buddies getting ripped apart or worse watching the plane start flipping on its side with smoke and confusion . If it did not break apart and watching everything around you getting sucked out. No way to contact your loved ones, no way to say goodbye to your mom or girlfriend/wife who is on the other side of the world. Next second you're either stuck into the spiraling coffin with wind noises or if you happen to escape and jump out and open up the parachute watching the rest of your formation partly in flames surrounded by thousands of flack burst. Looking down knowing you're about to possibly break a leg and become captured by the enemies. Just flashes of your entire life and the fear of what is to become of you.

I think the worst was coming back home if you did survive it all and knowing all those small town people back home had no idea what you had experienced for over 3 years with questions like "How many germans did you kill?" "how many bombs did you drop?" "Are you happy the war was won?" . And living with some of those images for the rest of your life. For those men who just went in and did their job. I salute you.

I know it's only a game, but when you take the time to remember that it's a game based on history, you realize that there were actual situations just like this and there were people dying by the bushel on both sides. Kinda makes it a little more haunting and not just a bunch of pixels on a screen.

That brought different vibes than your other videos indeed.

This video reminded me of why, when the last flying B-24 flew past my house at nearly eye level in the pattern to the nearby airport, my spontaneous response was to salute, tears streaming, to the thousands of men who bravely went to their deaths in them.

The scary part was being a kid looking up at thousands of white lines in the sky all pointing at your home. “Mutti, was ist das?”

Very accurate depiction. Especially for a video game. Gives a whole new appreciation to the fact that the 8th air force suffered more casualties than the entire usmc did in ww2

I always knew Pippin Took
was a Lufwaffe pilot. He defended the Reich to the very end

I know this is a dumb question but, I'm guessing every bomber in this video went down sometime after the pass as shown (for the ones that didn't look like that they were going down but were heavily damaged)

It's just something I think about often. Seeing guncamera footage (historical and this kind as well) we only see the bullets hitting and nothing else, sometimes we get a spinning B-17 for a few seconds but nothing else. Harrowing to think that a few minutes later those men would be fighting for their lives to leave the very thing that brought them there and protected them.

God Bless all those who served. To those that paid the ultimate sacrifice each one of us owes you a debt that can never be repaid. The price of freedom is always paid in blood.

How did you get the graphics to look so good? Mine still looks like a 1998 video game lol. Any tips?

Atmospheric. Captivating.
But what informed Tolkien, the war in which he served, was The Great War.

Il-2 Flying Circus? RFC photoreconnaissance airrcraft, out photographing the line twice a day, being preyed upon by the Luftstreitkräfte, being preyed upon in turn by 56 Squadron RFC's SE5as?

Oh wait. "Paragorn son of Parathorn, I remember him, he led the Air Assault Brigade at the Battle of Helm's Deep"
