I think the first encounter of SW/SH is a guaranteed capture. I don't know if this changed at all from it being a randomizer but that could be the reason you were able to catch it

here is a funny story i got for ya. when i was young i was playing soul silver. and my 1st encounter was a shiny zubat i was like. oh whats this so i caught it and someone told me. dude you got a shiny. and i did not know what shinys where back then and i still have it to this day
