Story 2- they "set free" a domestic rat into the woods? So they abandoned a poor pet, that is most likely dead now, just because their little plan to use it as a tool didn't work? The ex and daughter infuriate and sicken me.

Story 2: Throwing a domesticated rat into the woods is like throwing an elk into a pack of lions. Idc if that’s a rat. JAIL.

The thing is there really is no excuse for showing up to a pot luck empty handed. It's literally the whole point and there are many dishes that can be prepared at very low cost and effort.

Story 1- Thanks OP for saving the group from the moocher and her supporters. An entitled woman trained her boyfriend to be equally or more entitled. NTA😊

Rat story;
If the daughter had the rat and OP was trying to make his daughter rehome a beloved pet so the girlfriend could move in, that would make OP the ahole.
However, the girlfriend already lives with OP and the rat is a gift from someone outside OP's home. That means any gift of a live animal has to be discussed and agreed to by OP because OP will be partially responsible for the animal's care.
Definitely NTA but the ex wife is. I can see why they're not together anymore.
Edited after update;
Of course nothing OP does stops the madness; he's not the problem and probably has never been. He's more than willing to compromise and coparent for his kids while his toxic ex is trying to alienate her kids from their father and shocked when it backfires? Again, I can see why they're divorced.

S2) Get a lawyer. What your ex is doing is abuse. Forcing your child to manipulate and hurrass you and your girlfriend. Plus, your ex is going off on a situation of HER own making. Good on you for not taking her back.

Never enable moochers because they will never stop and will take your silence as you agreeing with the behavior.

Story 2: wife blows up marriage over a crush on another guy now blames OP'S gf for being a homewrecker!? Kids need to be made aware of why the marriage failed asap. Ex-wife putting her anger on gf via daughter is only going to hurt the daughter in the long run & sabotage the daughter-father relationship. OP needs a good family attorney to take both kids & make sure they get therapy. If everything here is true, no judge in his/her right mind will allow the daughter to be used like this by the mother. Get kids into therapy at a minimum!

Good that OP grew a pair and put a stop to that nonsense, the update was the best ending possible. Moochers and their enablers left the group OP and the “polite” (doormat) friends keep doing what they’re doing.

The fact that they only got 1 rat just proves that this is a Spite Pet and they did absolutely 0 research on proper rat husbandry. Bet they keep it in one of those super tiny cages too. 😒

Edit: THEY ABANDONED IT IN THE WOODS??? Those monsters should not own animals ever. Every store and shelter needs to blacklist them.

S1- Dont you love when someone gets called out for their shitty behavior? Lol 😅

Story 2: Soooo, ex wife cheats, divorces, it doesn't work out. She manipulates daughter into getting op single so she can get back with him. Accuses him of the exact thing she's doing. (Because projection is a favorite tool of people that can't handle accountability) And when the scheming fails, they just throw the rat away?.
Op needs to explain to his daughter that even if he was single, he's never getting back with a disloyal betrayer.

Moochers suck. Get them out ASAP as soon as you catch on, they are never nice or appreciative of what they weasel out of you.

That is 100% the kind of toxic thing my mom would have done. Fortunately for my dad, my mom was absolutely terrified of them too.
I feel sorry for that poor rat. They basically left it to die. They are really sweet pets. Sounds like really awful people.

My wife and I are generous to a fault.

Every kid birthday party (we have two kids, both mostly grown now), she had one "best" friend who would always show up without a gift, despite her and her husband making better money than both of us (and keep in mind, we make really good money).

Every single time, she'd show up, eat all of our food and drinks (we always had lavish spreads) and then say "her (my kids') gift is in the trunk of my car"

After a couple years of this (where we would always get their kids nice gifts) I started joking "how big is her trunk? there must be hundreds of gifts in there".

Thankfully, they moved away and we haven't dealt with them for years. The problem with moochers isn't that they mooch -- it's that they make generous people want to be less generous (because they're always afraid of running into assholes like these)

Lol I would loooove to encounter this couple. Idk how everyone keeps letting this slide and even having them around. You SHOULD have issues with her too because she IS a mooch and you LET her be. And everyone who insists she shouldn't have said anything, should be the ones paying for then going forward.

The introducer friend is trying to poach the people who are tired of the moocher friend because they have realized that with fewer people to split the bill, the people that are left are having to spend more money each on the moocher and her moocher boyfriend.

From now on, when you go out, tell the wait person it will be separate checks. As for the potlucks…. A text/email needs to be sent: “for anyone not bringing a dish to share, we’ll assume you’re on a fast & not eating that day.”

My dad was like that, he didn't like that the elderly cockatiel he got from the animal shelter would bite so he was going to throw it out the window in the middle of a New England winter. I went home that day with a happy little cockatiel. He lived out the rest of his days with me, singing his little heart out.

Some people enable moochers because they enjoy being seen as generous and noble--it feeds their ego. They wouldn't put up with it if they weren't getting some kind of emotional payback.
