Debian Linux Email Server Part 2 (Configuration Demonstration)

This video will demonstrate how to configure a Debian 8 Jessie email server using Postfix, Dovecot, spamassassin, claimav greylist, phpmyadmin, and postfixadmin.

That face when you are following a video too closely and you delete your 000-default.conf from your sites-enabled directory and with it goes hours of time spent learning how to configure Apache

And then after 30 minutes of being mad, you realize that the files in sites-enabled are just symlinks to sites-available and that you're a n00b

Just wanted to add an update on the status of part 3. I'm done recording most of it but as predicted I'm having issues with the demonstration part. I might push that to a part 4 so that I can conclude the configuration phase for those who are waiting on it. I caught a few mistakes as well. This series may end up with a version 2 at some point if I decide its too confusing to be a good quality tutorial. I plan to have something uploaded tonight. Thanks for your patients!

ok i was able to make some entry adjutments and the reload of /etc/init.d /postfix works..but i not sure if my entry in the 1st section question of FQDN is correct..i put freinds.org..i just made it up..is this ok???

i went to my file system and to etc amd the postfix folder and to the main.cf file and nothing changed....but there is a file next to it called RETURN.. a nd it has my changes...is that good??/...or when i exited vi and used rerun it saved it as RETURN??..but i coulnt get out withoout the return string...should i rename main.cf and delete the other??/....

hello sir i added mail.home.local as my FQDN..however after that it gave me another prompt question root and postmaster mail receipnet..it didnt go to the terminal like ur vidow..do i leave ths blank i folow ur guide on the terminal inputs??/

hello sir..i have a question somewhat offtopic..as i have download some more souce code and while i can edit the file i cant view in the web broswer..it says i dont have permission...and i did chmod u +rw so only i have permission..but i still cnt view the file in a browser...if i cant set the permission, , i have to copy paste akll the files to a new file ..lots of work for nothing basically..but well anyway if you have any info i would be very grateful thx

i think i know how to save and exit vi...i was in nano and when i saw the ^ i wa pressing that but i had to press the control key and the relevant letter to effect the finction..do you know how to reverse chmod and i wil re write the main.cf from scratch and i should be able to save..okay thx

hello sir..im slowly making progress..b ut i dont have alias or alias database..and no+ for delimiter...do you know how to set thses???..cuz in my debian i get these questions at the prompt and not at the terminal like you...

good day sir...i went thru all my files and deleted any and all .htaccess and .htpasswd files and such ..but now i am in the source code folders and files that i just downdloaded and i found a .htacess file and it says ....1stlin..order, deny, allow...2ndline....deny from from this the proper configuation to allow me went i enter in the browser fo display the page and not 403 forbidden???

hello sir good day..i just did a check at my terminal prompt ..hostname -f ..and it still gives me the original hostname...which i cant remeber how i set it..i think it was at the start when i first setup debian on my the changes i made to main.cf ony got saved to <return> for some reason..and then when i did chmod i was able to rename it main.cf and then i renamed the original main.cf to main1.cf and also i had a main.cf.swp, which i have no idea how it got created ..or whats in thre..i put it in trash...so anyway to ur best answer, why is the sysytem still reading main1.cf and not the new main.cf??/...should i just premantly delete main1.cf and main.cf.swp and see the results>>???//ok thzx

not sure whats happening...i cant rename the fiel and there are so extra lines at the bottom of the file..ihaving hard time witht the typing in vi...then i also have a main.cf.swp fiel..i cant delete thsi either....i dont know how to be root in the file system to get privileges..debain is tuff 4 that...i thin i ahve to start over

the configuration code is ....1st line...order deny, line..deny from all 3rd line..allow localhost...i interpret this as first deny all and then allow from localhost..is this righ???...should i move the localhost allow line in the 2nd spot and try that ??..thxz if you can help

hello sir...i got back to main.cf...i saw notng cuz i wasnt in root or right file...so i got to main.cf and i had not saved the new code somewhere ..so i had to re wite it and i saved and pasted it to my gedit text editot...so now i gonna try to save and exit..yes i used all the wq commands....but the omnly one thta works is with, return>..i gonna try again..

hello sir..i tried allmorning but i cant get aoinr 403 forbiden in the web browser..there is only 1 .htaccess file in a folder in the code i downloaded, , but it says allow localhost....do you have any suggestions how i can around this block??

or maybe since i am still not at production and only at testing stage..i can copy paste main.cf (which is actulayy <return> file as that was the only way i was able to get out of vi ) and paste to main1.cf ..which it seems the sysytem is still rwading and call it main.cf again or leave as main1.cf..or welll u get the picure..sorry for all the if scenarios....
