2020 Chevy Corvette convertible: A look at the first hardtop convertible Vette

Moving the engine rearward positions the driver much closer to the nose and shifts the car's center of gravity directly next to the driver's hip.

The new LT2 engine is a 6.2-liter V8 making 495 hp and 470 lb-ft. The bigger change is what it's connected to -- an eight-speed, dual-clutch transmission from Tremec. When it comes to performance there's no doubt DCTs are quicker. How quick? The new C8 will have a 0-60 mph time of less than 3 seconds.

We suspect some traditional Corvette buyers will struggle to get their heads around this new mid-engined layout, but anyone with an eye towards performance should be properly salivating right now.

Necells, huh? As a retired pilot we called the housing on the outside of a jet engine as its nacelle. Pronounced, "nah-cell". If you are referring to the opening to cool the engine, that would be its cowling.

Hardtops were an option on all Corvette convertibles until the convertible was first discontinued in 1975.

Man, ever since I totaled my C6 Grand Sport I've been itching to get another Corvette with the C7 Z06 at the top of my list. The arrival of the C8 changes that.

All of the C1's except 53 and 54 had available hardtops. Isn't that Rapid Blue with two tone top care that much about not seeing engine. Stunning design. Another home run.

Its great, I love it. I think I'd have the hard top. But I can easily see droptop customers being very satisfied with this car.
