Thomas and James finally get behind the wheel of the much anticipated 2020 C8 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, with Z51 Package (performance exhaust, tightened suspension, larger Brembo brakes, and an electronic limited-slip differential) and a bunch of other added extras. At an MSRP of over 100K Canadian, could this be the best performance bargain on sale? Does it render a Supra useless? For that matter, is it a supercar killer? Watch to find out. Subscribe!

I like that their review was completely transparent. Absolutely no one else has had anything negative or real to say about this car. They didn't find much wrong but at least they were honest about the review.

I said it before, I’ll say it again: the new C8 Chevorlet Corvette is what the new *Acura NSX should have been, * an affordable light mid-engine supercar fighter with everyday daily luxury car amenities and comfort. They aren’t very comparable as they are now, no, but they _should_ have been.

The C8 Corvette is slated to be a modern Toyota Supra and Nissan GT-R killer that could also hang with the Porsche Caymans/911’s and Ferrari’s on the track. Something of a spiritual successor to the road paved by the first 1990 Acura NSX and 2010 Lotus Evora. Always chasing the base Porsche 911’s tail. The Acura NSX didn’t need to become another $150, 000 Hybrid Supercar like the BMW i8 because to be honest, nobody really wanted to buy one. The BMW i8 and Acura NSX became the choice for niche hybrid nerds that wanted expensive flashy cars that were unique and literally nobody else bought.

The Audi R8, Porsche 911 Turbo, McLaren 570S/540C, Aston Martin Vantage, BMW i8, and Mercedes AMG GTR all compete with the Acura NSX in the supercar market at that price. A Honda produced V10, a V8, or a twin turbocharged V6 (or supercharged V6) built on a much lighter chassis without the hybrid electric batteries would have been sufficient. The Acura NSX looks good, and is technologically advanced like the BMW i8, but they can’t justify the $150, 000 price tag. Starting price at $60, 000-90, 000 is good, just to undercut Porsche.

Everyone and their dog miss the manual gearbox yet almost nobody buy[s] them... How come?

When you have to mention many other cars to denigrate the C8, the C8 has certainly done the job right (for the most part). Understeer can be neutralized with camber adjustment and is mentioned in the owner's manual (for track use); understeer helps save the drivers that don't know how to drive (as well as they should).

Great shots of the understeer! Many reviewers talk about how cars handle, but rarely do they demonstrate the behavior they're describing or its magnitude. Good job!

Mid-engine, low price, plenty of power. Yes, this car was designed to understeer on purpose.
There will be so many people overdriving their ability in this car. If it was setup for track use, half of them would be in the hedge from power-on oversteer, or lift-off/snap oversteer.
They'll probably come out later with a track package that fits a correctly tuned rear diff, and a more focused track mode.

Willing to bet that understeer is 100% intentional to keep the typical corvette buyer out of the morgue. I would prefer it err on the side of oversteer, but the attorneys seem to prefer understeer.

Mid engine / RWD cars have a tendency to give you snap oversteer, which is a blast, if you have fast hands....and will kill you if you don’t. (I know I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know).

The understeer is from the standard alignment settings designed to keep retirees out 9f the ditch. Motortrend touched on the performance alignment settings on its review of the C8.

So, I happened to surprise my wife with a 2022 C8 LT2 with the Z51 package. We both had corvettes when we first met in our twenties. So, it was a sentimental purchase.

I've been a car enthusiast since I was a teen. Had muscle cars, then bought my first vette 1962 at 21. It was semi customized, and it was and still is beautiful. It was a great feel to own, just not a great drive. but a head turner!

So, she took delivery of the C8 in March of 2022. She now has 11k miles on it (two long road trips attributed to half that mileage). She has no hesitation pushing the envelope with it. We do track it locally and even get it on a drag strip with some of the muscle cars. I am not a typical collector as we own them to use and really enjoy them.

We've had several other corvettes, and the C8 is impressive as its unlike any of the previous generations. The mid engine dual 8 speed clutch and much more chevy implemented changed the game for the corvette.

Now it's a far cry from the two Ferrari's. A 2020 F8 Tributo & 2019 Ferrari 488 GTB! You're also talking about a hugh sticker price difference.

We have 7 adult children and our 5th grandchild due soon, but there is still room for another car. I always wanted a Z06, so I have one on order, but a 2023 delivery is questionable. The vettes are just in my blood, but lean towards the Italian super cars.

Imagine driving so many exotic cars that a V8 feels wrong

Complain about a mid-engine vette that doesn't have a manual. But I never heard complaints about mid-engine Italian cars not having gated shifters... honestly

Great review. Everything they say it's lacking will be answered with the Z06. No doubt the exotic engine and the handling will be there when it's released. I respect their criticisms but you must realize that what GM is offering for the price is close to a miracle.

The Z06 will have a 8-9k rpm DOHC screamer that you guys are looking for and they will fix the understeer problem. The C8 base is the Cars and Coffee boomer cruising spec. What you guys want is the Z06 then you will want the ZR1 then Zora. But you'll be talking $100k - $150k USD for those and not the $60k USD starting base. Ferrari just came out with the Stradale starting at $650k USD which is a 1000 hp hybrid entry level hyper car. Zora will be 1000 hp hybrid with similar hyper car performance but ~ $150k so will be quite impressive.

Dude these guys are legit the best reviewers if you care about car performance (something imo you really should put above electronics and features) and that's why I love them so much.

They don't shill, they give it credit where its due and they criticise it when it deserves it. For real the best there is. Doug never looks at the driving experience in depth and that's why I like Throttle House so much more.

This is why I love watching your guys reviews! You actually stopped the bs and gave it a real review and not just ‘OMG it’s amaazing’. The understeer and the back styling are two of my main ‘issues as well - but oh man it really is a beautiful car
