Indonesia Won't Let Us In (Now What?) | Sailing Ep 298

The situation is out of control, it's out the window. We have checked out of Malaysia, but we can't check into Indonesia for over a thousand miles. Does this mean we turn round and try the Philippines?

With frayed nerves, we set sail to Nunukan, the closest port of entry in Kalimantan. All we had was hope and a few vague promises...

00:00 Stuck in No Man's Land
01:09 What are our options?
02:36 Preparing herbs for passage
03:18 Checking out of Malaysia
04:26 Finding fuel (diesel) for our sailboat
08:51 Heading to Indonesia with hope
10:58 Negotiating shallow reefs
14:28 Arriving Nunakan

One thing I enjoy about your channel is hearing your interactions with the locals. I always notice that sometimes they use the same words but a slight different accent in Malaysia as the Philippines. Even the written signs in Roman alphabet are words recognizable to me. As for meaning…. That is something else. 😉

Thank you for this video! I’m doing som research on this area and your video came up. Still in the Caribbean but heading out the Pacific in a few weeks. So taking advantage of WiFi when possible. Being rejected at the border is no fun. Been there done that after nonstop sailing from Panama to Martinique when the world was shutting down. It’s for sure been challenging times for sailing but still would not switch place with anyone back home in Norway. Wish you all the best and fair winds ⛵️

Stilted houses are all over the east coast and gulf coast of the US. Alaska and the west coast have some too.

I love how the fuel jockey out of respect addressed you, Liz, as 'Mrs' regardless of actual marital status. So, Mrs., Which is it -- Liverpool or Manchester??😁😁
Can't wait to see more and more Indonesia, an almost lifelong fascination... All best regards.

With a similar solar panel setup, I can relate to that trepidation. What's the draft on Esper? I thought 4.5ft (1.5m) was a pain. Granted, I've only sailed 400nm, and only ran aground once (which was due to a miscommunication on whether the chart should be set to imperial or metric).

It's been long time till you reach Indonesia water again. Welcome :) Hopefully you can make it entering at Tunon Taka🤞🏽 Yup, Nunukan has a good potential for seaweed cultivation, don't forget to try once you entering. :) Anambas for sure waiting for you. Stay safe Liz and Jamie!

PS: Love Liz' hair color 😉

I strongly thinking of sailing to Indonesia. Can you please recommend an agent or someone who can assist with. The paper work required.

While most of the world is opening up....WTH Is going on in Indonesia??
If these parts are closed can you imagine the locals still looking for work and tourism/tourists???...
What are the conditions? More out breaks???

You should decide where to ride out WWIII. That seems to be comming up quickly with dreadfull inevitability.

Oh come on you guys...leading us on and then not telling us whether you're IN or OUT of Indonesia in the end. Hmmm...hope it all works out for you. Amazing that you're actually hoisting a Q flag again after all this time. Crazy old world.
