As someone that has been falsely accused of tracing multiple time I am skeptical. "Hands to face in horror", "coquettish head tilt", and "boy looking out window" are such trope scenes that trying to claim they belong to one production is like when one of the Kardashian tried to trademark "kimono". Those kinds of imagery were established way before Mushoku Tensei. Maybe I am a basic bitch but I like making traditional scenes and there is a big difference between leaning into the same tropes everyone else does and plagiarism

I guess artists should start recording their work process incase of they get accused of plagiarism.

Considering the integration of generative ai in art production like video games, manga, novels, tv shows and films etc, we're going to reach a point where "made with 0 AI" is going to be a genuine sellung point for such products.

It's all rather funny, in how in drawn media people must be "on model" so you have a bunch of artists trained to draw exactly the same thing, and should these artists go their own separate ways they'll end up with similar (but not exact) styles.

This isn't to mention that the method of learning is to copy from existing works, and this has happened so much in anime that for the untrained eye most people assume all anime is the same looking and call it "boring" as a result.

At the end of the day this is all to communicate an idea, and well even if something is pretty or looks the same as something else, the vast majority of the time nothing of interest is said. Which is what we have with Hollywood these days: They're all copying from each other with nothing interesting to say.

The biggest use I could see for using an AI for webcomic stuff would be for backgrounds. It would make it a lot less tedious to draw trees, coastlines, buildings, etc, instead just have an AI come up with them.

I'm going to create a comic about severed, anthropomorphic hands having adventures in a world of hands. The AI will never be able to copy my work.

Gigguk made a video generating light-novel titles with TrashBot; the results were hilarious.

I think there's a point here that some people miss. It's true that Big Company X could fire their artists and writers, but then what does Bix Company X have to offer? If Joe Geek can have AI write and draw and can put the product up for download, then why go to Big Company X? I guess there are established IPs, but WB and Disney want to ruin their own characters anyway.

Ai is a double edge sword. On one hand it can be a useful tool in the anime/manga/ comic community. However, when it comes to to costing people low level jobs that is concerning as well as any loop holes that would allow others to use your artwork.
As for social media, that has been something that has long needed to be addressed. Discipline on not being on it or at least wrting in a way that isn't just shit talking because how it can affect your job.

If only we could replace Kathleen Kennedy with a bot who could actually make great Star Wars movies and shows and cut out all this woke crap. MAKE IT HAPPEN, DISNEY! 😎👍

All of those comparisons seem sufficiently different enough. I don't get where the claims are coming from.

The big problem with this kind of AI abuse is that it’s gonna make EVERYTHING more and more bland and homogenous as everyone stops using their own inspiration and imagination!
Everything will become technically more perfect but also more emotionally and inspirationally bland and synthetic…
You always need that human X Factor to make things REAL and something powerful or insightful enough to move your heart and grab you by the feelies!
It always takes a LIVING BEING to be able to reach beyond their limitations.
Synthetic AI will always just rinse and repeat perfectly what it learns from.
It cannot be INSPIRED to break its own programming because it’s not alive.
Thus eventually people will grow tired of the synthetic copy and paste art and will still seek out the mysterious and ground breaking!
We as humans always want to push BEYOND ourselves.
AI simply wants to copy and codify what already is…although that’s also what many humans CHOOSE to do as well…LOL🤔😵‍💫

AI of this kind is just for lazy weirdos. Human artists must succeed!

Comparing A.I. being introduced to a production to the transition of going from traditional to digital art is an apples to oranges comparison

really, that is it ? based on the pictures they show, it looks ridiculous to me to accuse then of stealing the artwork... what now anything that is similar with something else is stolen ?

Korean manhwas and webtoons are more into "surfing the same wave", i.e. following the moest trendy themes and aesthetics pointed by market sales, than carbon copying something. Whoever reads Korean manhwas regularly knows how one artist after the other use the same base ideas - transmigration, "isekai" into another world or a videogame, reincarnation - and redresses them, sometimes with talent, sometimes just following the tastes sells numbers revealed. Same goes with light novels.

Sadly its likely gonna be another case of "Self-check outs" or "Online Shopping"

The convenience, pricings, speed, and quality...
No matter how much people push for responsible use of this powerful tool (which could considerably ease the strain and workload of story/manga artists that are being put through harsh deadlines and conditions,
By Companies wanting to put out content at unhealthy speeds like factory made products...)

Companies will likely use it to cut countless jobs, expect more work from the people they do keep, and for less pay
All to max out their profits by cutting as much "unessary" spending as possible, cause they not only have less people to have to pay for labor, but the benefits, and worker's protections along with it...

I feel bad for manga artists now that A.I. can plagiarize their works.

People were ripping off each other's work long before ai came around.
