I got accused of plagiarism because I used the word ‘thus’ in seventh grade and the teacher was convinced that a seventh grader wouldn’t know that word. She asked in front of the class how many people knew that word and everyone except like 3 people raised their hands. So she dropped it.

Honestly, I’d have taken that Public Speaking thing up with the school as a serious complaint. If they’re testing you on your Public Speaking skills, that’s a completely different thing to testing you on your Speechwriting skills. If anything, they should have given you the speeches to see what flair and skill you bring to them. It’s an oracy class, not a writing class. To fail it for plagiarising a speech is unfair and definitely complaint-worthy.

I failed a subject because I did "self plagiarism" seriously I filed a complaint to the school. At the time I didn't know it was illegal to use one assignment for two classes. Self plagiarism was never mentioned in the student handbook or was discussed during orientation. I won and ended up getting the lowest passing grade.

I plagiarized twice. Once I handed in a copy pasted like 30 page science report in middle school where only the first couple pages were written by me.

Teacher knew it was sketch but couldn’t prove it at the time so I got away with it.

Second time I just handed in a book report that I had written for another class a year or two prior, and my mother found out and told the teacher and THAT I got in trouble for. Plagiarizing myself. 🤦🏽‍♂️
