We travel South to chase astronomical darkness and photograph the milky way in the mountains of the Black Forest / Schwarzwald region in Germany. Join us on this road trip nightscape astrophotography adventure as we scout various compositions during the day and photograph the stars at night. Ofcourse not all goes according to plan and we find ourselves having to adjust to unpredicted obstacles once again.

I use a Skywatcher Star Adventurer, astro modified Canon 6D DSLR camera, Sigma art 14-24mm f/2.8 and Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens.

Fantastic end results there Jeroen. I think you did really well to cope with that wind my friend.

Great Adventure!
I'm super happy to live next to the black forest, its a nice playground for astro :^)
I would say the skies in here are some of the best you can find in germany!

Thank you for sharing your astro adventures! You captured some awesome shots there. Its very nice to see you visiting germany so often. Yesterday we had a stunning night at Riedbergpass on the german side of the alps. Bortle 3, watching into a Bortle 2 zone in the south. Its easy to drive there, maybe around 2 additional hours from the Netherlands.

Now it`s getting really fun, i also travelled 3 weeks ago to the Schwarzwald and stayed on the Mummelsee to collect some astro images.

Great job, Jeroen, especially in that wind! I think my favourite is the selfie at the end of the wooden walkway (it looks like you’re at the end of a jetty), but each one is excellent. Well done for putting in the effort of that long drive to seek out darkness. 👏

PS “sweating like an otter” 🤣

Phenomenal video as always! 7:07 I suggest you use a leveling base to make it easier to level the tripod. I have the Sunwayfoto 68R leveling base and it's amazing!

You got Rho Ophiuchi! Lucky man! Trying to capture that from the borders of scotland and england is a nightmare! It’s about 5 to 10 deg above the horizon. What was it in the black forest? What settings and how many subs for that? It’s a nice one as are all the milky way selfies.

Great shots! For 50mm, I noticed you shot at f4: is it because of coma issue? I was testing my canon 50mm f1.8 last night and noticed f4.5 was the best overall star shape. I will just have to pump up iso and switch on my star adventure 😊
