CLASSIC VILLAIN RETURN! | NO TIMELORDS! | TURN LEFT STYLE EPISODE? | Doctor Who Series 14 "Leak"!

Doctor Who is a British science-fiction television programme broadcast by the BBC since 1963. The programme depicts the adventures of a Time Lord called the Doctor, an extraterrestrial being who appears to be human. The Doctor explores the universe in a time-travelling space ship called the TARDIS. The TARDIS exterior appears as a blue British police box, which was a common sight in Britain in 1963 when the series first aired. With various companions, the Doctor combats foes, works to save civilisations, and helps people in need.

Beginning with William Hartnell, thirteen actors have headlined the series as the Doctor. The transition from one actor to another is written into the plot of the show with the concept of regeneration into a new incarnation, a plot device in which a Time Lord "transforms" into a new body when the current one is too badly harmed to heal normally.

A series of special episodes of the British science fiction television programme Doctor Who will air to celebrate the programme's 60th anniversary. The episodes were written by Russell T Davies, and will be broadcast on BBC One in November 2023, preceding the following fourteenth series. David Tennant will appear as the Fourteenth Doctor before Ncuti Gatwa takes over as the Fifteenth Doctor. Catherine Tate was also confirmed to be returning to the show in the 2023 specials.

The three specials were directed by Rachel Talalay, Tom Kingsley and Chanya Button respectively. Filming moved from Roath Lock Studios to Wolf Studios once Bad Wolf became a co-producer of the series; filming commenced in May 2022, and was complete

David Tennant will appear as the Fourteenth Doctor before Ncuti Gatwa takes over as the Fifteenth Doctor. Catherine Tate was also confirmed to be returning to the show in the 2023 specials. Yasmin Finney joined the cast for the anniversary, to portray a character named Rose. Bernard Cribbins, Jacqueline King and Karl Collins are also set to return as Wilfred Mott, Sylvia Noble and Shaun Temple, respectively.

On 29 July 2021, the BBC announced that Chris Chibnall, who served as executive producer and showrunner of the series for the Thirteenth Doctor, would depart the series after a run of specials in 2022. In the BBC press release, Chibnall is quoted as saying: "I wish our successors - whoever the BBC and BBC Studios choose - as much fun as we've had. They're in for a treat!" The future of the programme was first teased by Piers Wenger on 25 August 2021, when he said an upcoming change for Doctor Who would be "radical".

On 24 September 2021, the BBC announced Russell T Davies would return to Doctor Who as showrunner, after having previously acted as showrunner from 2005–2010 for the Ninth and Tenth Doctors. He will succeed Chibnall for the show's 60th anniversary in 2023 and beyond. Davies will be joined by the Bad Wolf production company, which was founded by former Doctor Who executive producer Julie Gardner and former BBC head of drama Jane Tranter. In October 2021, it was announced that Sony would acquire a majority of Bad Wolf. Bad Wolf also took over creative control of Doctor Who beginning with the specials, allowing the BBC to focus on establishing Doctor Who as a global brand.

Phil Collinson returned to the show as producer, having previously produced episodes from 2005–2008. Davies confirmed by March 2022 that production had begun at Bad Wolf Studios in Cardiff. William Oswald is also editing for the new series.

On 13 June 2022, Davies announced that Neil Patrick Harris would be joining the cast, playing an undisclosed role.

The Fourteenth Doctor is the current incarnation of the Doctor, the fictional protagonist of the BBC science fiction television programme, Doctor Who. The Fourteenth Doctor is portrayed by Scottish actor, David Tennant, who previously portrayed the Tenth Doctor.

Within the series narrative, the Doctor is a millennia-old, alien Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey, with somewhat unknown origins, who travels in time and space in their TARDIS, frequently with companions. At the end of life, the Doctor regenerates; as a result, the physical appearance and personality of the Doctor changes.

Ncuti Gatwa had previously been announced as Jodie Whittaker's successor as the programme's lead, and many reports stated he would play the Fourteenth Doctor and that Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor would regenerate into an incarnation portrayed by Gatwa. Upon Jodie Whittaker's final appearance as the character, she instead regenerated into a form similar to the Tenth Doctor. This character, portrayed by Tennant, was confirmed to be the Fourteenth Doctor, with later clarification that Ncuti Gatwa would actually portray the Fifteenth Doctor

No Daleks is fine for me.

Love them but let's give them a rest for a massive reveal in the third series (at least)of the new era.

K1 is an interesting choice if true, but I do wish the Voc Robots would make a return

i feel like they could still do more with Gallifrey itself like there's no way any aliens aren't trying to find it to scoop up some alien tech or something

The Yeti is the only major classic monster whose not returned to the new series. We’ve seen the Great Intelligence return, but without the Yeti.

I don't mind him having the same sonic as 14. They have done that before with 9 and 10 . Maybe he will get new sonic later down the line . It seems like a waste if they only just use that sonic during the specials.

The problem is Doctor Who right now is that I had such an expensive universe and so many characters left have so many things done with them, that fans are both equally desperate for them to make a return, but also wanting to criticize anybody who does bother to bring them back, claiming they can't come up with anything new.

Sounds very similar to what we’ve seen from RTD before. People thought after so many years passing that he might have some new inspiration for his storytelling

classic villain returning, that could only mean one thing: The Quarks are coming back.

I really hope RTD handles immigration issues better this time around. The Unquiet Dead was completely irresponsible with regard to this sort of thing: Aliens wanted to come to Earth peacefully, inhabit the dead, all was gonna be fine but had some interesting moral questions about said dead, then all of that depth gets chucked right out the window to make them just evil of the week BS. Don't do it again RTD!!
As for the sonic, I want it destroyed and never rebuilt again. I'm so sick of the sonic screwdriver. 1st, later 5th, 6th and early 7th did fine w/out it, and even the other classic Doctors never abused it like the modern era. It's not a magic wand!!

Can a "K1" Robot appear in upgraded capacity, when that would make it a "K2"

Think getting away from the sonic as a plot device is one of the best things they can do. It was overly used during Chibnalls era as a lazy plot device.

Correct me if I'm wrong but to my knowledge (AKA, the DWM comic strips) Tennant has the same sonic as Whittaker but with a different colour light. So not only would Tennant and Gatwa have the same sonic, it would be Tennant, Gatwa *and* Whittaker. If there is a different sonic prop confirmed for the 60th though, please tell me, this is just what I'm aware of.
