Tired of big, heavy, inefficient, SUVs? Want something a little bit smaller with a bit of character, but still need loads of space? Say hello to the Inster from Hyundai, a small, all electric, A-segment city car with the interior from the Tardis. Its stylish, with incredible packaging and well equipped, and its from one of the world's best electric car manufacturers. So where's the catch? Bryan bagged an early UK drive in the car to dig deeper and find out.....

AutoEV - all electric, all independent.

I absolutely share your passion for small cars - for so many reasons - They are less harmful to the environment on all levels, they are easier to drive, cheaper and last but not least, they say something about yourself as an unpretentious and sensible person. If space is not a top priority then more people should drive cars like these

Thanks for the best in-depth UK review. I went to a preview of the Inster at the Tunbridge Wells dealership on Monday. A genuinely impressive car, I'm 6'2" and big bloke, there was ample space for me in side. It oozes quality, equipment and practicality. Just looks so much fun and can't wait to drive it. Hyundai has a real winner on their hands.

Going electric in 2025. Hyundai Inster is definitely on my list, along with the Skoda Epiq and Renault 4 E-Tech. The Inster seems to be big bang for the bucks, and should become a big seller. I'll maybe add an used Kia EV3 on my list as well, depending on whether I want to purchase a brand new car without having to sell my kidneys first, or make a weapon-based visit to my local bank.

I love it ! I have a 2024 Ioniq 5 and I can see so many similarities to it; the space, the styling (pixels), the technology etc etc. I had a Mercedes (in the AMG Line Premium Plus trim) before my Hyundai Ioniq 5 and can honestly say that the new Hyundai’s feel just as luxurious. If you haven’t had a Hyundai before I would urge you to test drive one, and if you haven’t had an electric car before I would urge you to try any one of Hyundai’s electric cars. They are all brilliant, and as was said in this review, they all have real personality. I can’t wait to see this new city car out on the road turning heads !

Hyundai and Kia just pushing their EV tech ahead of everyone else… great for driving - right balance between physical controls and Screen based controls.
That new Auto-iPedal seems brilliant - looking forward to trying it ( probably on the EV3). Thanks for great review once again, Brian 👍👍

I love European and UK reviews of small cars - there is so much affection for them, and it is so refreshing to listen to. Such a relief from the Cybertruck/Ford Lighting mega monsters! Inster is due in Australia in early 2025 (three variants - Standard, Long and Cross (later)) - should do well.

What a fabulous review, thank you. I chuckled. I'm getting a test drive on the 8th November. I won't buy a new one, because that would be stupid. But this is my next used car. I currently run a 2016 Hyundai Ioniq, which is great, but too big for me. Keep up the excellent work. Best reviews on YouTube.

For me as an hybrid enthusiast (currently with a Honda HRV) who is not really convinced that e-mobility is going to save our planet this could be the first EV to change my mind.

I'm determined to get one of these but the lease deals are shocking so far. This ticks all the boxes I've been waiting for to switch to electric, I'm just waiting on the right price now

I'm a Hyundai Ioniq (HEV) owner and love it - this looks like a great city car.

I haven't seen a small EV that ticks (almost) all the boxes until now. For my needs, this would be ideal. Great review, thanks 😍

I've got a Fiat 500e La Prima which I bought new (for £27k) and has now done 24000 miles. Problem with this car is the software which is rubbish and a lack of Fiat garages - was very difficult to find one to get warranty work done - it failed its first MOT due to the front wishbones which need replacing and the garage we'd previously used was no longer an approved Fiat dealership! The Fiat drives well but is too small. Had a look at the Inster last week and was very impressed - will probably get one to replace the Fiat in January unless something else takes my fancy before then - was going to get an MG4 but I hear people say they are not very reliable. Thanks for the review Brian.

A couple of years and these will hit the used market. This is the car that Ford Europe should have made.
