Fat Wives For Thin (1930)

This Mack Sennett-directed comedy stars (among others) Marjorie Beebe and Andy Clyde (but without his usual makeup). Also, this short has a rather unique ending. This film comes from the Library of Congress.

And, in true Atlas TV style, they misspelled Marjorie's last name in the opening title.

Loving Marjorie Beebe everyday....God knows Ive known the name for decades but was unfamiliar with her Sennett shorts. Great comedian in the Martha Raye vein with a hint of Eve Arden. These comedies are pretty racy too. So thanks for uploading these very rare Sennett 2-reel shorts.

What? Were they allowed to say damn on screen in 1930? Was that still acceptable in pre-code days?

In 1930, the poverty rate (in the U.S.) was 45% while unemployment was at 8.7% and increasing exponentially in the ensuing these statistics, imagine watching this "short" and seeing the humor in it. Just a personal observation....that's all.

Too bad there wasn't a sequel which takes place a year later.Madge is nearly a fat as her mother who has added a few more pounds.George no longer plays tennis but now has a potbelly that he is amused with.they have invited over Mr & Mrs Gilmore who they haven't seen in a year.Mr Gilmore looks the same but Mrs Gilmore has definitely ditched her diet.Madge is shocked and struggles for words "Mrs Gilmore you are are" FAT my dear Mrs Gilmore replies.and she gives her fat belly an affectionate pat.she has put on 40 pounds!
