As an old B-52 Jocky from the 80s I can tell you this movie was on constant rotation at the alert pad. All B-52 crews had to 'sit alert' for a 7-day stretch, so what else are you going to do. I've must have seen this movie a 100 times, never gets old.

What is great is they made them 100% professional and yet still funny. The humor was in their humanity.

Fun Fact: Kubrick had to guess where the crew stations were on the B-52 set as he wasn't allowed access to an actual plane. the result was so close to accurate he was apparently questioned by the FBI as to where he got the information. Turns out he simply arranged the duty stations in positions where they made sense ergonomically.

The top two on my GOAT list; 2) Citizen Kane. 1) Dr. Strangelove.. If Strangelove had just been a comment on the Cold War, it would be forgotten by now. That it’s not is a testament to the script, Kubrick’s genius, and the masterpiece he created.
