"Micro Four Thirds is not professional?? Well, I've seen and hear enough on photographers using the term "Professional" to define gear advancement and superiority. But the term professional is far from it, in fact, it has nothing to do with gear. So I want to clarify once and for all in this video. #photography #microfourthirds #olympus

Professional : To be paid for the service. It means nothing else. It doesn't matter if its an iPhone or a 5D IV if you get paid to take photos it's professional.

I love backpacking trips; I enjoy cultural travel. I have tried different formats, and the only one that allows me to travel light to some extent, while taking good picture, still being fun, has been micro 4/3.
I agree. All formats have pros and cons. For my needs, this is top.

Long time photographer here, I started in 1970 I was doing aerial work with 9"/9" negative and 8" Zeiss lens mounted in the plane, also a K2 I think, I
Hand held with the door removed from a Cessna 180 another 9" sq camera. I have done 6/7 and 6/6 med format as well as 35mm film before digital. I tried apsc
First and then heard about micro 4/3. My initial test about 7years ago on Olympus made my decision easy, even with the menu system learning curve. All about easy carry for me. Thanks for another great video.

I honestly admit that I had an inferiority complex with a full frame camera
But after watching this video, I finally decided that I should take a picture.
With Olympus who taught me the joy of taking this picture
I'm glad you told me this
Thank you

Great video Jimmy couldn't agree more.

Quite right in your well rounded argument. MFT doesn't need defending for those who have it, they know how good it is. Sadly if it were more expensive than full frame, many would regard it as being superior.

Your definition of a professional photographer is correct. You and Robin Wong are making sense about the people who say Micro Four Thirds is not professional. What suits one photographer may not suit another photographer. That’s it.

Great clip Jimmy. If you earn money then you are professional and if not then you are amateur. I earn no money so I am an amateur photographer / videographer. But I do buy the best Olympus and Panasonic M 4/3rds cameras and lenses to hopefully get good quality photos and videos. Does not always work as I am not a good photographer. Although people seem to think just because I am using an Olympus EM1 mark iii and the 150-400mm pro lens then I must be professional and expect me to be able to shoot images of Swallows, House Martins and Swifts in flight. All I can say is that it is not that simple and extra light instead of this awful dark grey weather would sure help!! When are we going on that photo walk in London ?? Peace and happiness. Stay safe and well 😊😊😉😉

I am an amateur and something I also appreciate with M43 gear is that I can afford the top cameras and lenses.
I don't mean they are cheap, but they are not crazy (the Sony A1 is 7000 Euros, this is sure not for me).
My next lens will be a telephoto. It will cost only 1500 Euros :) I am quite happy with that.

Yes, you are absolutely correct to say a professional photographer is one who make money from photography. That defined the term correctly.

As long as a person don''t make a living out of it he cannot call hinself a professional eventhough he is very experience and good in it. Ssme goes with cooking, engineering, art etc.

A professional in any field knows hows what tools to use to get thr job done. He is well trained and resourceful. Yes, one does not need to use pro grade equipment to be a pro. Obviously, it helps. However, using pro grade equipment won't make an untrained and inexperience person a pro.

Similarly, one do not need to be a working chef to be good in cooking. A lot of working chefs may not cook very well. An amsteur chef who only cook for himself during weekends can be very good in cooking s certain type of food. He won't call himself a professional chef because he does not work as one. He might be working as an aeronautic enginner for a living.

What about a professional hit man or assasin who kill others for a living ? Does he has a particular type of pro equipment ?

I have Pen F and i think its great. I always believe that better gear will not make me better photographer, i can only get better by practice and study

There are talented photographers out there with film cameras and phones as the main photography gear. Check Tyler Mitchell a young photographer with an American Vogue cover. He is shooting film. One of the best wedding photographers in the world is using point-and-shoot cameras because he wants to blend in without the guests to notice a big camera.
So yes gear will not make you a great photographer.

I do agree with you Jimmy, the hater of MFT are always telling silly things they only think on 35 mm.

I started shooting in the 50s with film. 35mm film is very close to the resolution of a 24mp ff camera. I do not print 2X3 so the 20mp 4X3 sensor gives the same quality for me. I learned with a large format field camera. 100mp medium format still cannot match that for 30X40 inch prints. Still, when I go to the Getty to look at a lot at the photo wing, I see many photos taken with 35mm among 8X10 film shots. Should all of those be taken down because ISO it usually between 25 and 100 and the resolution is only the 20/24 range? It is one tool. Just as in film there were many things that had to be done in large format or medium format and magazines which would not accept 35mm. But Life magazine which was my weekly photo fix was mainly 35mm photos. I think all these uses were professional and still are great photos today. The camera & lens are the interface between the mind behind it and the view in front of it. Having the right interface affects the result, but it takes that eye behind the camera and the subject in front of it before interface matters.

Most of us here are M4/3 and we like your content. Preaching to egg sucking grannys who may or may not be professionals, or aspire to be, is all part of the debate for anyone looking for pro's & con's in format.Well said !

Great work mate! I loved the clear distinction you make around professional grade equipment rather than just pro gear! Hope you're well mate!

thought going to use some old FT DSLR to shooting. Because i realized that after i use 135mm camera, i lost most of my innovition and techinique of taking photos. Everything looks ok through a 85mm lens.
