What to Do With Worship Team Chaos
In this video, gives insight into handling worship team chaos and provides practical ways to build up your team.

Mario asks:
"Hi Don, I am a worship team member at my local Hispanic church in Houston and I have concerns about the health of the worship of my church. How do I deal with a worship leader that seems to be doing everything wrong, from picking bad English songs that more than half the congregation doesn't understand and does not motivate them to sing? He places worship members into instruments that have no experience playing and a very unorganized rehearsals that seem to be only a waste of time. I have spoken to my leader about all of these issues and he doesn't seem to admit there is a problem. Sometimes I feel I could do better in organizing a team musically due to my professional music studies because I am passionate about it. Every time I bring up the issues with the pastor, though, all they say is "submit to your leader." How can I submit to a worship leader that is unqualified, and that is in charge of a group that is full of problems and doesn't seem to admit it?"

Sometimes you are a more qualified musician than your leader but you have to be humble. Part of being on a team is learning to work together. We cannot place ourselves above others. Help the group to grow together so that we can get to the same place.

I love the way you handled this question Don. the one thing I would add to Mario is this: pray for your worship team leader that God would bless him, inspire him, and also give him the skills to lead practices efficiently. that God would give him the wisdom to handle the intricacies of choosing a song catalog that fits the congregation. Also, pray that God would show you how you can support that growth in him. Before you go to speak to him about these things, pray God would guide your words that you would speak His will clearly, and pray that God would open his heart that he would hear you.

As a band leader of a small band in a small church I know when I have had issues with members of my band, I have prayed for wisdom for me, and for God to open their mind and heart before I have confronted them about style or arriving to practice on time or anything like that. Any time I as a leader need to ask anyone to change something about their contributions, I pray God would give them courage to do the same for me should I need it.

Thank you so much Don Moen! God Bless...👍What u said touched my heart...
Submit to your leader. It's easy to leave the church and go to another place where people appreciate you! But it's hard to stay and serve! You are right... maybe God is testing us, and maybe God has bigger plans for us... Thank You! ❤

Dear Minister Don....I’m SO glad I found your channel! What a blessing! I’ve been using your music in church choir and worship team scenarios since 1985...at Palm Baptist Church in Riverside Cali. That’s where I cut my teeth as a choir director/worship leader. Under pastor Don Parker. All these years later my wife and I are still serving in this capacity...but now in North Dakota. I so appreciate your no nonsense perspectives on these great questions! Wow...I’m forwarding your vids to my team members....not because there are problems presently, but because your answers can stave off these issues. Thank you for all these years of beautiful, powerful, anointed music....and now, thru YouTube....your awesome insights! God Bless you dear brother 🙏🏻🎼. Steve and a Nancy Kuykendall

So appreciate this topic Don. As an adult leader in our youth group I help lead the worship. And it can be very frustrating from this perspective as well. I appreciate the perspective brought up by this question and I will say the leader has to be excited to have that kind of input and passion from one of his/her members. Even if there are feelings of insecurity he or she will eventually appreciate the input. If any of my youth approach me I try to receive all comments or criticisms and make use of them.

I could write a book on this. I've played in my church band for 13 years & have seen all kinds of manipulation & games people play. People it's all about Jesus, not them!!

I remember, I met a guitar player and a drummer and completed them to a band (played bass and keys). It was perfect and relaxed until the leader has the "great idea" to add a piano player plus a chord guitar player.
Both were pretty good, but it became stressful. I noticed, how hard it was to manage these people and how every gig became painful. Before I got damage, I decided to leave, because it was impossible to change theyr behaviour and how they did it unorganized and chaotic.
It makes no sense, to be earlier, when two of us are late.
