I have been living in Philippines about thirty year on and off. Staying safe is common sense I don't walk around at night alone. When it is dark I get to my hotel. I don't get drunk or use drugs. I treat people with respect the way I like to be treated. When you are out make sure there are people around. Any thing can happen but if you use common sense Philippines is wonderful country. My lady was from Zamboanga City. We did not live there but visited her brother's family on occasion. As long as I was with her or her brother it was cool. That was some years ago and it is a very different world there. I would not return now.

Excellent advice from Rubeauti. Manila and most places in Luzon and the Visayas are perfectly ok as long as you don't go in the wrong area flashing your cash, fancy watches, jewellery and cell/mobile phones, you'll be fine. Filipinos are generally very hospitable & very friendly 👌🇵🇭🇬🇧

40 years ago I traveled to the Philippines for the first time. Even then, it was said to avoid the south, where the Muslims terrorize the country. I have visited the Philippines many times (even Davao in the south) and have always had a good time with the Filipino people. Kusto ko nang pilippinas.

I was once in a relationships with a Filipina woman and she always wanted me to visit her. My family was always concerned I would get kidnapped there. I studied the country, and came to the conclusion that it was the southern part of the country that was more dangerous compared to the northern area. Watching this video, it seems that the southern part of the Philippines is like a different country. Thank you for making this informative video for people who are interested but concerned about visiting the Philippines.

I just left from my 4th visit this year. Philippines is the safest place I've ever been. Don't be a soft target. Any major city in America is far more dangerous than the Philippines. Maybe of your looking for something you shouldn't, you'll find what your not looking for.

I spent some time in Midsayap a few years ago. The tension that I felt was palpable. I certainly stood out amongst the locals...being over six feet in height and a white Australian. It was the first time in all my travels that I wanted to leave a particular area. This was not long after the Marawi issues. My pick would absolutely be Cebu, when I return to live in the Philippines...Really enjoy your content, Ruby.

I think there are areas that are safe in the Southern part of the Philippines. Just don't go alone to sketchy areas. It is always good to look into their tourism office before adventuring alone.

I spend most of my time in the Philippines traveling between Davao, Tagum and New Bataan. After 3 trips in a year I have not run into anything I would consider dangerous so for those of you worried about the area near Davao my experience around there has been fine. I have not gone west or south of Davao city so I have no idea how those areas are.

Been to Mindanao several times and it is the most beautiful part of the Philippines. Spent most time in Davao and also travelled right up North. Friendly people and amazing scenery. The enchanted river is spectacular

Thanks for the great video Rubeauti. Everyone talks about all the great places to go so its nice to hear about the places to avoid or to be careful in. Its the same with here in US, travelers love to see New York City, Chicago and Los Angeles, but there are places in all these cities where it can be dangerous too. I always love your videos. Thanks. ❤

Thanks Ru... yes I was watching some Phil TV news showing several clips of young girls walking alone on brightly lit streets being kidnapped and dragged into cars/vans, many never seen again and one of these was in Makati. 😢😢 Plus several tourists (Japanese) being robbed of cameras/phones on brightly lit streets.
Then 2 teenages, selling fruit being robbed and stabbed.
Then number of shootings is crazy with bodies just lying at side of roads.

Now the Philippines is relatively safe... but people do deserve to be warned of possible dangers!

Great vid, as always.

Note: If you do editing yourself (cuts, changes of shots) remember about checking audio there. Simple check of left/right channels (and eventually balancing them) can help to avoid one-sided effect like this vid have. Besides that I agree with whole concept, as I "study" life there for a while now and it's true.

I studied abroad there. I transferred colleges from Cavite to Cagayan de Oro (from Mindanao) and all my classmates were scared for me 😂. Mindanao obviously has a bad streak of crime and a bad reputation but other provinces and cities there like Cagayan de Oro and Bukidnon is quite safe and has about the same crime rate as that of some cities in Luzon. As for Marawi, Muslim classmates from Cagayan de Oro told me that it used to be relatively safe until foreign terrorist groups made a war there. It’s sad because she really wish people don’t think of Marawi as only a place of war and that’s it. So if anything the area in Bukidnon and Cagayan de Oro is okay. Even Davao was told by my relatives to be a bit more dangerous.. Other places that I know is safe in Mindanao is also the island of Camiguin

I was never a Target over there and I look like a Filipino but I'm half Indian and Irish and African. I'll talk to a lot of guys in Zamboanga del Norte. I traveled all around the Philippines on my big bike I had no problem anywhere. It's worse and more dangerous to be in America around your own police. I got stranded on my motorcycle and car guyan way in the province and they took me to sogo hotel for a thousand pesos. And put my big bike in the jeepney. I'm glad I kept all the pictures I feel safe everywhere in the Philippines. But I wouldn't advise some people of a certain color, I won't say to go everywhere out there because you will look like a Target.

I have been living for around 8 years in the Philippines, 2 years in Cebu and the rest of the time in Mindanao. I have a house in Davao occidental. They say that the mountains surrounding my place are a terrorist highway. So I avoid trekking too high up in that area.
I have visited North Cotabato on several occasions, Earthquakes being the greatest danger there, in my opinion. My next place to visit these days will be General Santos city, but of course I know the risks involved. It is very sad that many areas are a no go zone in this beautiful nation. But there are plenty of great and safe areas, so just come on over here to Mindanao guys and girls. Central and Eastern parts are very safe.

Hi thank you for the information. I’ve never been to the Philippines but am thinking of going this winter. I’ll make sure to stay in the safer areas. Too bad about those troublesome areas though. They sound like they’re really beautiful according to some of the comments here.

I visited Philippines as a kid back in 2006, 2007, and 2008, but only in Luzon and Visayas. I remember asking my mom if we should visit Mindanao and she said no. Now I know why.
